I'm quite sick and tired of people constantly barraging the obese because "YOU'RE GONNA DIE!" Yes, obesity can lie at the root of a lot of serious health problems, but it's quite obvious that one can lead a healthy life with an obese body.
I know many obese people. I am one of them. All of them are completely healthy. No blood problems, no cholesterol problems.
Know why?
Because it's genetics. Some people are just genetically fat and there's nothing you nor they can do about it.

To quote somebody, "You're gonna live forever?"
We're all going to die, but some deaths are going to be worse than others.

Obesity isn't genetic...how much fat in our body depends on how much goes in, and how much we burn it off...
I used to agree with you, but then I fixed my diet, and now I'm 50 pounds lighter...
I do believe certain people are more predisposed toward obesity, but there is always an alternative...

That's like saying "Diabetes can be healthy!", because you know diabetics who are living healthy lifestyles. Obesity can't be healthy.
You would think trying to out stupid yourself on BroadwayWorld would get tiring after a while.

Posted: 4/26/07 at 9:28amObesity runs in my family too, I could rest on the laurels of having heavy parents, but I decided not to. You can make all the excuses you want for being lazy.

Cruel, you don't look overweight from your av.
Anyway, if you're heavy and happy, then I say good for you. But don't think it's in anyway healthy. All the "healthy" obese people will most likely have medical issues as they age.

And how old are you? Early twenties maybe? Of course you're still healthy. I hate to be the bearer of sad tidings, but there are very few obese "old people."

That's what Raymond Burr told Orson Welles at his 70th birthday party. Raymond shared the story with me at his own 75th birthday party.
I'm quite sick and tired of people constantly barraging the obese because "YOU'RE GONNA DIE!"
You know, this is a large country with a lot of large people in it. I'm out there in the world a lot, and being a nosy type, I love to listen in to other people's conversations, while out on the street or in public gatherings. I have yet to overhear a single instance of any large person being barraged with "YOU'RE GONNA DIE!" I really combed my memory for an example, and all I could think of was one little chant of "Fatty, fatty, two by four ..." but that was in 1967 on a grade school playground.
I'd like more evidence of this constant barrage of "YOU'RE GONNA DIE!" Thanking you in advance.

Cruel, I hear what you're saying, and I do agree that people are sometimes too prone to judge larger people. Particularly those who are a healthy weight that are also smokers, drinkers, and junk food eaters. I know plenty of people who are not overweight who eat garbage - which isnt healthy either.
I have yet to overhear a single instance of any large person being barraged with "YOU'RE GONNA DIE!"
I think that he was exaggerating to make a point - and you are lucky if you've never heard variations of this statement. I can't tell you how many times I have heard larger people be told that they would "be a lot happier" if they lost weight. Yes, I do think that taking control of your body and living a healthier lifestyle can improve self esteem and confidence - but I am really sick of the point of view in this culture that being thin cures all.
That being said, I used to be 30 pounds heavier and genetically, I was predisposed to that type of body because of my father. I agree that some people are more prone to obesity, but you are also prone to the habits that cause it. I mean no one forced my father and I to eat carbohydrates like they are going out of style, you know?

Posted: 4/26/07 at 12:07pmHonestly, I'm truly "a lot happier" since I lost weight. Getting through the day is a hell of a lot easier when you can sprint up the subway stairs as opposed to dragging yourself up them, needing a rest at the top. And that's just one example.

I have mixed feelings on this-- especially as a parent...a couple months ago my daughter and I went roller skating, and I was shocked at the amount of young girls that were overweight and very developed and perfectly cool about flaunting it by wearing extraordinary revealing clothes.
In this case it struck me that most of these girls and indeed the overwhelming majority of the one's in my daughter class are hitting puberty already. It is natural to have weight gain and such at that point, but these are girls not young women and therefore the weight fluctuation's, hormones, and sexual desires are raging literally years earlier they have been in past generations.
One of the many reason that I only use organic food.

Posted: 4/26/07 at 12:37pmI'm frequently blown away by how many fat children I see. Did P.E. get ditched in the education system? Do kids play with Blackberrys instead of play tag at recess?
