Off-Broadway and Broadway ushers#1
Posted: 7/16/07 at 5:08amDoes anyone know where to apply for a job as either an off-Broadway or Broadway usher? What papers do they list these jobs in? Or do I have to contact a union? ANy info will be very helpful...thanks!

I believe that all PAYING usher jobs are union. I haven't a clue about how to go about joining. I think I recall someone mentioning that you have to actually be hired before you can join.
Most off-Broadway theatres used to use volunteer ushers. I used to volunteer a lot but it seems like every theatre I ever worked in is now closed and/or torn down. (Maybe I'm a jinx?) So I don't know if that's still true or not. I do know that you had to call the individual theatre and ask them if they needed ushers for whatever show you wanted to see. If they did, then that was your pay - a free ticket to see the show that night. It was very little work for a free show.
A click for life.

Not all paying usher jobs are union. My theater for one, has only paid ushers and all non union.
I'm sure there are others like that also. The non union ushers are paid as low as $25, while the union base is $40, I believe. Of course there are other rules that the union ushers must follow.
