re: Official Oscar Thread

ah strange, I rather liked Farenheit 911

ah I see what you mean with the pre-show on E! I was sticking around for a while, cause I promised myself I wouldn't miss a minute of the oscars, but then they started talking about stuff like "so, wax or tweeze eye brows", then I decided to stop being a loser (well, an attempt) and read. lol

I guess I'll just turn it back on at 6 when all the stars start coming

re: Official Oscar Thread

Yep, I get the Times daily, and I cut out that picture of Imelda and put it on my bulletin board. Imelda is my choice for Best Actress, but I've pretty much made peace with the fact that-barring a small miracle-she won't win.

As long as Virginia takes home gold, I'll be happy.

re: Official Oscar Thread

But for someone not winning the Oscar I think Imelda has gotten some press and hopefully it'll help her be considered for more roles. I hadn't even heard of her when the Vera Drake came out. I hope a lot of good comes out of her nomination.

re: Official Oscar Thread

Heh. I'm watching the pre-show thing on CTV and they just mentioned the Andrew Lloyd Webber nominated song, "Fear to be Lonely"... Uhm, not quite. Good try, E-Talk Daily.

re: Official Oscar Thread

Before her deadly serious role in "Vera Drake", Imelda was known as a film comidienne in Britain.

re: Official Oscar Thread

I didn't know that. I realized that she was in Sense and Sensibility upon watching it again.

Allie, haha. Sorry but that song just doesn't fit with anything else he's done.

re: Official Oscar Thread

I'm just looking back at the Grammy's and this past year...and although I haven't considered it before, is it really unlikely to suspect that RAY might win best picture?

re: Official Oscar Thread

Ray simply cannot win Best Picture. It was just too TV movie of the week to win the top prize. I am still lightly surprised that it was nominated. My two cents - Foxx was great in a mediocre film.

re: Official Oscar Thread

I didn't like RAY and it certainly shouldn't have been nominated. However, Ray cleaned up at the Grammy's...in a year of not particularly strong nominees, I don't think it's all that impossible.

re: Official Oscar Thread

I think Closer or Eternal Sunshine should have been in Ray's place for best picture.

I mad that King Arthur didn't get a best score or song nom. It's one of the best musical scores I have EVER heard.

Also what's up with Troy and best Costumes? Where the F**k is Vanity Fair? It should be in Troy's place.

re: Official Oscar Thread

yep. E! started their red-carpet coverage @ 6 eastern...
It's kind of pathetic that I know that. re: Official Oscar Thread

Eh, don't feel pathetic. :)

Does anyone else think Joan Rivers looks younger than Melissa?

re: Official Oscar Thread

Not much exciting stuff happening on the carpet yet. My favorite movie of the nominated ones is Finding Neverland, and although I wish it would, it basically has no chance. So with that out of the picture, I'm pulling for M$B. I saw both that and Sideways(no desire to see Aviator) and thought M$B was better than sideways, just a great movie. I concur w/ a lot that feel they might give director to Scorscese and movie to M$B. I'd be cool w/ that.

And I keep saying it but go POTO for song, art direction, and cinematography woohoo!

re: Official Oscar Thread

I'm watching Joan and Melissa on T.V. Guide channel. Two hours of Star Jones Reynolds is too much for me! Joan's as tacky as ever, but Star just makes me want to hurl!

re: Official Oscar Thread

Haven't seen "Vera Drake," but I have loved Imelda for years! I was so excited to see her nominated, and sorry that this probably won't be her year. (I still think she and Hugh Laurie should have been Molly & Arthur Weasley in the Harry Potter movies.)

Last minute predictions (these are all my objective guesses, not necessarily what I'm rooting for):
Picture: Million Dollar Baby
Director: Clint Eastwood
Actor: Jamie Foxx
Actress: Hillary Swank
Supporting Actor: ...Morgan Freeman, although I'm not convinced of this; won't be shocked if it's Church or Owen. (If it is Freeman, I think that bodes well for M$B in the big categories.)
Supporting Actress: Virginia Madsen
Animated Feature: The Incredibles (the one thing I really care about this year...)
Screenplays: Sideways for sure, probably Eternal Sunshine (these seem like categories where they often honor the critical favorites that miss out on the big awards)
Total guess, and I haven't seen it, but I have a weird feeling "Aviator" may be one of these nominated-for-everything, wins-little-or-nothing cases.
I am probably completely wrong...

And, while I certainly don't begrudge LoTR:RotK their sweep, "Kiss at the End of the Rainbow" absolutely should have won song last year!
