I cannot tell you how happy and sad I was last night. Sad, that she is not the nominee, but happy that she showed her unfailing support for Obama, and demonstrated what unity looks and sounds like. I hope Bill's competitive juices get going, and he gives the speech of his life tonight.
Whether they want to admit it or not, both Obama and Hillary need each other - he needs her to help get elected, and she needs him to demonstrate that she is not an outcast in her own party. She did her part, no one can doubt that. I just made a donation to help pay down her debt as a little "thank you" for the amazing speech.
My mom, who was an Edwards supporter (I told her he was sleezy back then and did not seem genuine) was shocked after listening to Clinton speech, surprised to find herself in tears at parts. I explained that the woman on stage last night was the candidate I supported, but that a very badly managed campaign, some MSM bias against the Clintons, and maybe a bit of misogyny, did her in. But, that speech made my mom, a Hillary hater, really reconsider her views and biases.
Last night, Clinton not only helped Obama, but greatly helped herself and the Clinton legacy.
Some PUMAs and Hillary haters will never be satisfied. But, the vast majority of people got the message loud and clear - we must elect Barack Obama in 08.
