Wow, I've had an airline horror story too, and will definately bore the board with the details of it, as soon as I get back to Poland...

Ground transportation is not much better. On a recent Antrak trip from NYC to D.C. we were stuck on the tracks in New Jersey for an hour and a half until the conductor announced that we were not moving anytime soon and "we suggest you make other arrangements to get to Philadelphia and pioints south."
OTHER ARRANGEMENTS?? At 10:00pm on a Sunday night, miles from any town? I kindly suggested to him that it was Amtrak's responsibilty to get buses or whatever and get us on our way. I got home at 2:00am.

Moony, didn't you have two bad Amtrak experiences in a row?

Amtrak is just awful. Last time I took a trip on oneof their trains I ended up having to sit on my duffel bag for 2 hours because there were no seats left. And for that privilege I paid about $40 more than I would have using NJTransit and other more local systems.

I took Amtraks for years to make trips back to the family 'stead. I eventually realized (after a trip like Plum's, in fact - a holiday where they up the ticket prices and pack 'em in like sardines), that the bus, although not quite as roomy, was exactly half the fare and always gets in on time - sometimes early. Amtrak consistently arrived an hour to an hour and a half late - and usually with absolutely NO explanation.

garland, Chicago had really bad storms yesterday...many flights cancelled, probably why......I was switched to Northwest (from United), and Northwest left three hours late......missed the last flight to palm Springs, so had to wait for my partner to drive to LAX to get me......I walked in the house at 3:30AM...arrgh

Please STOP TALKING ABOUT THIS! I have to be on a plane Monday morning for 11 hours worth of flights, 3 layovers and I KNOW they are going to lose my luggage.
I have stayed off the airlines since December when we had a HUGE meltdown in this area and I was stuck with no luggage or flighttrying to get home from Christmas vacation.
This can't, and WON'T happen agian.

I'm certainly not afraid of flying, but I definitely have my fair share of horrible airline stories, insane delays and all that.

Hey, anybody ever have one of those fun moments when the airline oversold the flight so they have to wait until enough people agree to be bribed off before they let people board? And you have to catch a connecting flight?
Yeah, that's fun.
Yeah, that's fun.

none of you can top this. i flew to Florida while my WHEELCHAIR stayed in NYC. THEN they decided to fly my WHEELCHAIR to Georgia. I didnt get my WHEELCHAIR in Florida till 3am when I had arrived over 12 hours earlier. And they were like, oh we're not required to put your LUGGAGE on the same flight as you. Um HELLO? I kinda need it! They lent me a chair that gave me back pains and was heavy as hell and wouldnt even give me a discount on a future flight or anything to try to make up for the misery they put me through. BTW, this was DELTA. Never using them again.

I think I should get airline miles for the trips my luggage takes.

You wanna fly for the price of a bus ticket? Expect that level of service.

Thankfully I've not had any horror stories, but I know people who have.
The most entertaining happend last summer, when I went to the UK with my choir. While we flew from Dallas to London, a choir member's garment bag got sent to Guatemala. He did not have his tux for the first concert.
