Oh, Meryl.

Dave19 and Sherk3 are the most vocal anti-racism fighters on this board.

Oh, Meryl.

This Heavyweight fight between Finding Namo and Dave the 19th is so epic. Like King Kong against Godzilla.

Spilling over into multiple threads, universes, realities! Very X Filey!

When They Go Low, I Go High

Oh, Meryl.

Since when is Grease Live, a one night television event reprsentative of Hollywood films?

Let's talk about actual films, like Into the Woods, Boyhood, the Ant Man, and other actual films.

Let's talk about how roles specifically for POC to be showcased in (biblical roles, the ancient egyptians, etc) are given to white people.

Let's look at the lack quality of roles for POC (because again, contrary to your glaringly anti-black beliefs, POC in general crave valid representation)

Oh, Meryl.

Do you even walk around on this earth with your eyes open? Have you seen the amount of black people in most of the current films and tv series? Have you heard of Orange is the New Black, Homeland, the Blacklist, Hannibal, and see how many black actors there are in those? Have you seen the casts of Les Miserables and Phantom currently? Have you seen the percentage of black actors in those? Have you seen the amount of black people in Grease live? Have you seen the amount of black Grammy Award winners? And the list goes on and on. Black lawyers in films and series, a black Hermione, a black Babette, black judges, black politicians, black police investigators, black doctors, surgeons, black FBI agents, etc.

I am talking about the high percentages here. 12% of the population is black but much more than 12% of black people auditioning get hired. That is an extreme privilege.

For example, 100 people audition for a project. 12 black and 88 non black. They need 30 people. The cast ends up with 6 black people and 24 non black people. That means that 50% of black people that audition is actually hired versus 27% of other races. That is what is happening all the time now.

The only reason I am bringing this up is to give you a reality check. I am not the one complaining about it.

Is it fair? No. One could wonder what is the reason behind it. Some kind of pressure for mandatory black casting getting out of hand or black people being enormously more talented. Either way, complaining at this point in time is a little out of place. To say the least.

Isn't it time to be very thankful for this?

Is it not high enough for you? And why do you think the percentage is so high? Because of pressure/pity or because black people are so much more talented?

I believe that any race can play anything but 77,4% of the population is white so of course chances are higher that a white person gets the role.

But to stay on topic, if you are convinced that choosing only your own race is what all people do, then what are you actually hoping for at the oscars and these awards? That every voting body member is going to for for people like themselves and then you are happy with the results?

Oh, Meryl.

Grease live has at least a 20% black cast, while the black population is nowhere near that.

I hope one day you learn that anecdotes are not statistics and that estimated percentages are useless.

Oh, Meryl.

Also Dave, what do your BS population statistics have to do with the casting pool of actors for any given project? You think the racial percentages of the world (which are wrong. A couple seconds of googling can show anyone that) are the same as with working actors with good enough representation/credits to get considered for bigger stage/tv projects? The same statistics make sense in major cities like NYC and LA where these projects are getting made?

Also, Keke Palmer, Boyz to Men, and Wendall Pierce are names. Its not like they showed up to auditions beating out a bunch of white people. They're probably offer only. So you think Fox should've been more mindful of your stupid wrong statistics when casting? Are you a ****ing child?

#32

Oh, Meryl.

The truth is that they deliberately only asked black actresses for Marty.

That's all.

I don't care if that's what they want. But they should ask themselves why they want it and be open about it.

"So you think Fox should've been more mindful of your stupid wrong statistics when casting?"

Actually, they can do what they want, I personally wouldn't use this rule about certain races being mandatory to cast. That is not fair towards other races. Having a certain character in mind and preferring a certain race for that particular role is different of course.

Why were no white actresses invited for Marty?

How do you know they weren't? What the actual frick are you talking about dude??

#38

Oh, Meryl.

FindingNamo said: "Why were no black women seen for Sandy?"

Because one of the casting associates told me.

They wanted a black Marty and they wanted a white Sandy.

#39

Oh, Meryl.

Why did they want a white Sandy? That's REVERSE reverse racism against white people!!!

Given the terrible way you misunderstand statistics and representation ("EVERYTHING is proportional representation"Oh, Meryl., then 12% of all Sandys cast in Grease must have been black, right?

You must be able to tell us who 6% of them were, at least, right?

Oh, Meryl.

FindingNamo said: " then 12% of all Sandys cast in Grease must have been black, right?"

No. It means that every time they cast the role of Sandy and a 100 girls audition, that there is an 88% chance the role does not go to a black person.

But in the case of Grease live they chose on race in advance. I think because people like you seem to need that and they must have felt some pressure. Now they are on the right path......

Oh, Meryl.

I had no idea I was SO powerful I influenced the casting of a Fox network production.

Well, where are the 12% of black women who have played Sandy?

Or is your understanding of proportional representation, and nay, racism, incorrect?

#42

Oh, Meryl.

Proportional representation is about the individual audition process per role. Not about the amount of roles for black people.

We are all people auditioning with very little chance. And yes, the majority of candidates for a role have bigger chance.

If you don't like that, you should support the "cast on race" theory.

#43

Oh, Meryl.

So you imagine there is behind-the-scenes representation but that it rarely translates to onstage/onscreen representation? Gee, I WONDER who's making those decisions!

God Dave, you're arguing against your own points.

Twitter @NamoInExile Instagram none
#44

Oh, Meryl.

So what do you actually prefer?

That 12 out of 100 people auditioning for the role of Sandy are black? (proportional representation). Which gives an 88% chance that the role is not cast black. Which also gives a big chance that the whole cast turns out non-black. So, basically not casting on race at all, just on chance.

Or that the casting directors prefers a white Sandy, because they want her to look like a majority or whatever reason, and therefore only invite white girls, but therefore they decide (to avoid twaddle) to cast another role, like Marty per definition black, and only invite black girls, because they can accept that role looking like a minority or whatever. So this means casting purposely on race.

Which one do you actually prefer and why?

#45

WHERE are the black Sandys, Dave? WHERE ARE THE BLACK SANDYS???? Representation is based on what is seen in the finished product. You can make up all you want about 12% of every audition pool being black, just remember you are making it up and reflects nothing in the real world. It's your fantasy.

Oh, Meryl.

FindingNamo said: "So you imagine there is behind-the-scenes representation but that it rarely translates to onstage/onscreen representation? "

Exactly. I agree that THAT is not what is translating to onstage/onscreen representation. Because 88% of candidates per role that are not black is a huge amount and always the much bigger chance.

So there must be another reason. You tell me. Is it because black people are ridiculously more talented or are people actually casting deliberately on black race?

#47

Oh, Meryl.

FindingNamo said: "WHERE are the black Sandys, Dave? WHERE ARE THE BLACK SANDYS???? "

It seems to me that you actually like disproportional representation in auditions so you like the outcome more?

Because no black Sandy's is very logical considering that 88% of candidates is not black, IF done proportionally.

It's either that, or you just prefer casting based on race.

#48

Oh, Meryl.

WHERE ARE THE BLACK SANDYS, DAVE?

You have fantasized that 12% of all auditioners are black and YET you can not point out A SINGLE BLACK SANDY, let alone 12% of all the Sandys that ever were.

Oh Dave, you're illustrating how white favoritism works.

Twitter @NamoInExile Instagram none
#49

Oh, Meryl.

First, you are too dumb to wipe your ass.

Second, if you can't make a choice between those 2 examples, I know enough. You prefer disproportional representation, as long as it favors black people. There comes your double agenda peeking around the corner again.

#50

Oh, Meryl.

I'd love it if 12% of the characters I saw in American productions of every kind were black. But it doesn't come close. Know why? White favoritism?

Why do you think "they want white Sandyd because of the majority or whatever' is something you don't question?
