Never knew this until I read this story today.
Don't you hate it when someone whose work you admire turns out to be such a douche.
Excuse me while I throw out my Ender and Shadow sagas.

I'm surprised you hadn't heard of this before now. It's been "big" news for a little while now!
I'm just glad I found out before wasting my time and money on his movie of Ender's Game coming out in November.
He's a total conservative Mormon.
In a 2004 essay entitled "Homosexual 'Marriage' and Civilization", Card wrote: The dark secret of homosexual society—the one that dares not speak its name—is how many homosexuals first entered into that world through a disturbing seduction or rape or molestation or abuse, and how many of them yearn to get out of the homosexual community and live normally.
I prefer C.S. Lewis if I want a little Bible in my sci-fi.
There's a big protest over his new position at DC Comics.

I admit I'm a bit cynical, because I assumed this was well known, as well. I hope it becomes better known as the movie comes out.
For me, the irony is that I first read Ender's because of a guy I dated--we gave each other our favorite novels to read, I gave him At Swim, Two Boys, and he gave me Ender's. And I really liked it, with some reservations, but only researched it a while ater when I was looking into the sequels.
I think it raises interesting points about if you can enjoy and support a person's work when you don't agree with their ideas. I don't find this a problem--personally--when it comes to someone like Wagner who is dead and burried (Stephen Fry recently had a great miniseries about his own coming to terms with Wagner.) But when they are living, it's harder. Obviously there are many writers I love who probably don't share my views on a good number of things, but unlike Card, they don't make it public and contribute money--that I know of--to such causes.
It won't make me throw out my copy of Ender's Game. It will make me avoid the movie or buying any of the sequels--but frankly I wouldn't begrudge a fan seeing/reading them. I do question DC comics hiring him though--then again frankly I don't know if I find his current opinions more offensive than those of Frank Miller, and I still hold his 80s comic book work--Daredevil especially as the peak of superhero comics.

You read a lot of comics!
He reads a lot, period. Good for him!

the great irony is that the third book, xenocide, IIRC has a tribe of human intellectuals whose religion is genetically programmed mind control.
I'm starting to think I should have a meme.

Me too, but then the little pilot fish up there will tag along and kill the fun.
...I thought I was the pilot fish

No, you're pilot season.

The story won't be appearing after all, at least not right away, as the artist/illustrator backed out because of the controversy:
"It took a lot of thought to come to this conclusion, but I've decided to step back as the artist on this story," Sprouse said in a statement released Tuesday. "The media surrounding this story reached the point where it took away from the actual work, and that's something I wasn't comfortable with. My relationship with DC Comics remains as strong as ever and I look forward to my next project with them."
Interesting that Sprouse doesn't say he's backing out because of Card's open bigotry, focusing instead on the "media surrounding the story."
Still, encouraging to find that
Bigotry Has Consequences
Someone played a trump card on Card.

Douche bag extraordinaire issues a nonsensical statement:
Ender’s Game is set more than a century in the future and has nothing to do with political issues that did not exist when the book was written in 1984.
With the recent Supreme Court ruling, the gay marriage issue becomes moot. The Full Faith and Credit clause of the Constitution will, sooner or later, give legal force in every state to any marriage contract recognized by any other state.
Now it will be interesting to see whether the victorious proponents of gay marriage will show tolerance toward those who disagreed with them when the issue was still in dispute.
Paragraph 1) Gay rights did not exist in 1984? You are either woefully uneducated or you're trying to make some spurious connection to Orwell. Either way...FAIL.
Paragraph 2) No dickhead, not any marriage contract will be forced to be recognized. I realize you are using that inane argument about how "next people will be able to marry dogs" without actually saying it. But your irrational fear confirms that you are a mental midget.
Paragraph 3) This one..I mean wow. Not seeing your movie can not in any way be conflated with tolerance (or intolerance). I also didn't see Tyler Perry's "Medea Goes To Jail". So by your logic I'm a racist. But wait! I did see a bunch of other Tyler Perry movies, so what happens now? Do I get a "get out of racist jail free" card.
In short: your non apology is logically flawed and you are a stain on humanity. Please go curl up in some dark and dank corner while your relevancy dissipates.
Oh, did I mention that you named your evil alien characters "buggers"? You lose this round Orson.

Tolerance how? Like not trying to keep straight people from being allowed to marry? Sure.

I mean, I'd like to know why people act like Anthony Weiner running for office is some kind of crime against humanity, but David Vitter and Mark Sanford still have their careers being career politicians if we're just asking random questions.
Burn!
