This is quite disturbing.

I HATE "Accidentally In Love."

Mr. Knowles probably made sure his daughter got a songwriting credit on the album to increase her take of the royalties. The same like Madonna gets when she adds half a lyric to a song composed entirely by her "collaborators." After all, Beyonce's daddy IS listed as an executive producer on the Dreamgirls album.

How do you know WHAT she did or didn't contribute?

And exactly how much does one have to contribute to be a collaborator on any song? If she came up with just one line, it's still HERS.

And how much "song" do you think the SEVEN writers of that Oscar-nominated Shrek 2 ditty actually contributed?

You people are ridiculous in your assumptions and your theories about "the truth coming out." And about collaboration. She's LEGALLY listed with ASCAP and BMI as a co-writer of this song. She is listed third, not fourth among the writing credits on both the film and the soundtrack liner notes for "Listen."

It's blatant racism. They're pushing Beyonce out of it because she's black...sort of.

I really wish that we could go back to the old days, when music was all about the art and completely altruistic. If it wasn't for those opportunistic Knowleses, the music industry would be perfection. Why did they have to ruin everything?

Let's all hate Beyonce. That will be fun. We can hate her all the way through to the Oscars. Then we can find someone else to hate.

I don't really care that much, but I don't get the Beyonce dislike either. I think she's a gorgeous and talented woman who's a great performer. I went to see Destiny's Child on their final tour (I was dragged to it, actually) and wound up having a great time. She was amazing live.

All that aside, back to the thread topic at hand. I'd be hurt and furious if I were her re: the Oscar disqualification. What's the point of that stupid rule? How can someone be left out of they actually participated in the songwriting?

I can't figure out where the aggressive hatred is coming from.

She's talented, young, gorgeous and hugely successful right now. She writes, sings and produces her own best-selling material. And she is continuing to grow and explore as an artist.

I said this on another thread, but I'll say it again. I simply do not get why the people who hate her have such a vitriolic reaction to her. It just doesn't make any sense to me. If people really hate her because of her father's management style or her mother's designs, I think that's completely ludicrous.

I never hear about the girl running around town getting wasted at clubs; she doesn't seem to be exploiting her body to sell her music; her last album is women-empowering; hell, she even travelled with an all-female band! Seriously, I don't get why the f--k people get all knotted up over this girl.

Every single thing she says or does gets scrutinized and misconstrued (usually deliberately). I've seen her be nothing but gracious and humble throughout this whole Dreamgirls blitz and get she just can't catch a break.

What's funny is that virtually every bit of press I see for Eddie Murphy has him mentioning that originally he wasn't going to do the film because he wasn't going to be paid enough. I've seen no one ripping that apart. If Beyonce had said something like that, the sniping bitches would never let it go.

Actually Beyonce has said she was paid less for Dreamgirls than any movie she's been in so far. And it didn't matter to her AT ALL, because she really wanted to be in it.

All of the stars took pay cuts to be in the movie, otherwise the budget would be around $100 million instead of $80 million. Whether or not they have any percentage points, or back-end "bonuses" on it, I have no idea. I'm sure they have a completely separate deal for the soundtrack, the DVD, likeness licensing (like the dolls, etc.) as well as their other various duties on the film. (i.e., producing songs, or co-writing, etc.)

But this was a labor of love for Beyonce, Jamie and Eddie. They agreed to work for less bucks, because they knew it was a great project that would allow them each to shine in ways they hadn't before.

*waits for some snarky spin on how evil Beyonce is for doing that*

I can't believe someone hasn't spun that into something negative yet.

amanda24----Well, YES, in a nutshell.

But last year 7 was fine, and this year 4 is too many. That's the part that sucks. If the film was in last year's competition, all four songwriters would be on the ballot.

Oscar rules stink sometimes.

I also don't like the fact that actors can only be nominated once in each category. (Once for leading and once for supporting.) But directors, writers, etc., can and do occasionally receive more than one nomination in the same category.

There are certain years (particularly in the supporting categories) where actors give more than one "worthy" performance in a year. And even if they get enough votes to have BOTH in the top five, they will only receive a nomination for ONE.

In 2001, Beyoncé won the "Songwriter of the Year" award from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) Pop Music Awards. She is the second female and first African-American female songwriter ever to accomplish this.

Been there, done that, saw the movie and bought the t-shirt. I hated Beyonce the year she sang all of the nominated songs. Now I like her. (But I like Jennifer Hudson more.) Still, I hope she doesn't sing all of the nominated songs again.
