Oscars won't 'Listen' — Beyonce disqualified in song race
You can not only forget about Beyonce Knowles winning an Oscar for best actress this year. (If you haven't heard, a certain ingenue keeps upstaging her throughout "Dreamgirls.") Now it looks like Beyonce won't win as a songwriter either — for "Listen," one of the original new tunes added to the original Broadway score. Officially, she's listed as one of the song's four writers, but the motion-picture academy only permits three names — max — as a credit.

Uh, it's not the song that's disqualified it's Beyonce as a song writer that is disqualified.

Somehow she'll get slammed for this, too.
Why is it her and not one of the other three writers that gets disqualified?
The words "Booty" and "Jelly" are not in the song, so I doubt she had much input it its creation.

How is she not getting an oscar nom? Or was that just your opinion?
Maybe PATIENCE and LOVE YOU I DO have a chance now.
Some of you need to read before you post; as has already been stated in this thread, the song is not disqualified. She is disqualified as a writer, which, to me, seems ridiculous. If she wrote on it, she wrote on it...you can't take that away from her.

We will see how long this lasts. Mr. and Mrs. Beyonce's Parents will not let this slide. HOw dare they take their daughter's name off the ballot!
I do love "Love You I Do," though.

There we go.

"Listen" can still be nominated and should be over "Patience" and "Love You I DO," which are both inferior.
Guess what, kids? All three songs can be nominated! I don't know that they will be, but I think its entirely possible at least two will be.
Personally, i thought Patience was a better song than Listen.
This is something I knew a month ago. Why it's only making news now is beyond me.
yah, bobbybubby, if i wasn't laughing so hard, i'd give you a piece of my mind too, you hateful hating haterer!
I think Love You I Do and Listen are both strong pieces of music. Patience and Perfect World are alright.
I didn't realize they'd changed the rule to limit the number of songwriters for a submitted song.
It certainly was AFTER "Arthur's Theme" won in 1981, because they had four people accepting an Oscar that year:
Burt Bacharach
Carole Bayer Sager
Christopher Cross
Peter Allen
EDIT: Personally, I think it's a shame. If she co-wrote the song with the others, then she co-wrote it and should be acknowledged for doing it.
BobbyBubby, that was really funny.
At least Beyonce showed up for work. She's no LaChanze that's for sure!

What?
I wonder why it was her that was disqualified instead of the other two lyricists. Is the Academy responsible for determining which of the writers qualifies for the award or do the studio and producers decide who should get the recognition?
God Bless Jennifer Hudson.
