" I am thrilled for every single athlete and team, win or lose, no matter which country they represent. I don't give a flying fig about medal counts."
Well, then you are in the pretty small minority (to each their own). It is a sporting competition not an exhibition. You keep track of the winners and losers and you can bet most people in every country that participates is keeping track of the number of medals their country has won. As I said in another post, it is quite an achievement to make an Olympic team and every athlete that does should be proud of themselves.
I admire an athlete who comes last in their heat just as much as I admire somebody like Noah Lyles. Anybody who gives it their all, tries their hardest. An inspiration!
That said, the medal count is still fun. 40-40 tie, with USA number one overall. Can't complain.
I loved last night's ceremony. Except for the ten minutes on Venice Beach. The Tom Cruise bit was fun, but the three performances were somewhat dull and and uninspired. Must do better for 2028.
Oh, well, it's all over. Back to the harsh realities of life. I really needed those 16 days of pure escapism.
