Partially Out of the Closet...

Today has been a day that I will never forget!

Make a long story short, she found gay porn printed out in the printer. She confronted me and I told her I was just curious. I told her that I might be bisexual (which I am). She said no matter what, she will love me just as much, keep it between us two, and that I can talk to her whenever I need to. She said if I am, that all I can do it just accept it. I was planning on never telling her and let her figure it out, but I think today was for the better. Now that I know she will not disown me, like some mothers do, I feel wonderful and truly loved for who I am. I love my mommy!

Shame on you for leaving porn about, but isn't it amazing that we are starting to live in a world where moms and dads just might be able to handle this kind of thing?

The truth of the matter is--moms KNOW lol--whether they admit it to themselves or not. I think it is incredible that she was cool with it when she discovered the secret--usually when a kid is not the one disclosing, the parents have the upperhand of surprise and life can be hell. Usually, when you sit someone down and tell them, you have the upperhand and things go alright.

So, good for you that this is finally out. Overtime, it will be easier, most likely leading to being able to be out to the whole family. =)

I'm so happy for you! That took a lot of guts!

(although Lady wonders if a coming out would have occured if the gay porn wasn't in the printer )

To make it sound weird, my parents have already considered me out. And I'm not gay. (or at least I don't know it yet) But I have so many friends that are, and I am open with the sexuality issue, so to them I'm gay, straight, and bi all at once. I'm glad that my parents aren't that closed minded. They are somewhat, but it could be worse.

I'm just so glad that you told her! :)

My straight best friend in high school went through that! When his parents found out I was gay, they were determined that he had to be, too. No matter how much he declared his heterosexuality, they were upset with his being gay. Then, they finally accepted his homosexuality when all along, he was certainly straight.

Jrb_actor, I'm kinda happy about it though, because if it does turn out that I'm gay, it's not like they never suspected it!

And when I bring home a guy to get married, they'll be happy anyway! It works both ways!

Now that is not true. She sorta knows he might be into guys. Plus, there are various "levels" of being out:

1. To one's self
2. To friends--and to how many
3. to parents/siblings
4. to family
5. at work
6. to world

ha..for some reason this reminds me of my friend Zach telling me he was gay in HS. Here's the story:

I had known Zach since pre-k and when we were freshman in HS we dated for a few months then just became best friends later. In the middle of Junior year, after a yearbook meeting he told me he was gay. It was kind of like that Will And Grace episode when she doesn't believe him. I started laughing and was like "oh real funny"
Anyway four years later his Dad still doesn't know. lol

at my high school (small town- 450 students, you get the picture (i hate it here)) one guy came out last year and it was like the biggest thing that had ever happened. the overwelming shallowness of a lot of people came to light. it was pretty nasty.

My friend, that took a lot of guts to let your mom know about you being bi-sexual. I'm a bi-sexual girl and my mom and I are like amazing best friends, but I still havent told her yet. I think she would try to understand but I dont think she believes that you can like both sexes.
But because of this thread I might have to talk to her about it....maybe. Im horribly frightened at the thought tho.
