Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act

I feel bad for characterizing the small business option as a program for sweatshop operators. It was in very poor taste.

Hopefully ACA/SHOP success stories will emerge here in MD. I've written to my congresswoman in the House pleading for an amendment to raise the cap on salaries for ACA/SHOP tax credit eligibility to 1.5x the per capita income level at the county level. There's a huge per capita income disparity between residents of MS and MD and even between the individual counties in MD.

Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act

"Am I correct in understanding that everyone who is currently uninsured needs to be insured by the beginning of the year or they'll be fined? If they can't afford to pay for insurance now how are they going to be able to pay a fine?"

The fine is only $95 a year. So, basically there is an incentive in the law for the people who they are counting on to fund it to NOT buy in!! Think about it; You are 20 to 24 years old, making around $25,000 a year. You go to sign up for Obamacare and you discover that you're going to be paying about $90 a month for health inurance with a $5,000 deductable. OR, you could just pay a $95 fine and walk away. And don't worry, if something DOES happen and you end up needing health insurance, you can sign up for it as they are wheeling you into the ER in the gurney. And the insurance company HAS TO TAKE YOU!!! But YOUR participation is what will ultimately fund the law --even though there are huge incentives built into the law for you to NOT PARTICIPATE!! This thing was written by MORONS!!

Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act

It's like raaaiiiin...

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act

When Obama delayed the employer mandate, he broke constitutional law by legislating from the executive branch.

Roxy, I'm glad you brought that up, because I'd like some clarification. As I understood it, the law remains the law, but the administration decided not to impose any financial penalties until 2015, at the request of small-business owners who said there wasn't enough time for them to comply.

Is there more to it?

Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act

http://freebeacon.com/fox-obamacare-causing-skyrocketing-premiums-for-families-young-men/

Backs up everything I said in my previous post.

Tom Gialanella, a health insurance customer, said his premiums would rise 61 percent, and a letter from his insurer said the current deductible for his family of five would double from $4,000 to $8,000 per year, even though it was the least expensive option under Obamacare. His additional payment of $550 per month would give him a plan that carries useless maternity and newborn care benefits for his family, which he and his wife, both nearly 60, are not looking to expand.

Young men also face huge premium increases. One study by the American Action Forum said a 30-year-old male would see about a 260 percent increase.

Often, they would be forced to buy more benefits than they would be willing to pay for, as a recent survey found.

“What about the subsidies in Obamacare, which are higher at lower incomes?” correspondent Jim Angle asked. “For any young person making more than $20,000 a year, insurance premiums not counting deductibles would cost more than paying the penalty.”

That may turn off young people from signing up, a critical point because the administration is hoping to sign up enough young, healthy people to offset the costs for the older and less healthy. As Obamacare proponent Bill Clinton pointed out, it’s the only way it will work.

“If not, the costs will soar,” Angle said.

Reg

There are 2 ways of looking at it so we both may be right or wrong.

It is a giant Ponzi scheme that collapses if most young people do not sign up. If so premiums will gothru the roof. Expanded maternity care for 60 year Olds is a very important health care issue that premiums need to pay more for

The Republican Party has shut down the government to delay the ACA. You don't think they would have gone back to the Supreme Court if Obama had done something unconstitutional?

Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act

The Affordable Care Act helps Americans who already have insurance feel more secure in their coverage, ensuring it’ll be there when they need it. Nevertheless, it is certainly true that people with preexisting conditions, or preexisting medical conditions, probably should be able get insurance coverage. If they’re willing to pay premiums, why shouldn’t they be allowed to have it?
