Seems like a group of 40 or so millionaires have formed a website and written an open letter to Obama asking TO LET THE BUSH TAX CUTS EXPIRE for folks earning > $1m. I didn't check the list, but I'm guessing it doesn't contains the names Limbaugh or Hannity.

The way the GOP .. including former Pres. Bush II have responded to efforts like this in the past have been with comments like:

"Fine.. they can write extra amounts on their checks to the big government when their taxes are due. *smug chuckle* "

For course the GOP never encourages Republicans getting social security checks past the amount they put into the system to send the checks back. Nor does the GOP tell its senior members to completely REJECT the medicare they are using and buy individual insurance on their own or pay totally out of pocket.

"Fine.. they can write extra amounts on their checks to the big government when their taxes are due."

But the question is worth asking, and I've asked it several times and haven't gotten an answer.

Why do liberals always want an "all or nothing" legislation. If they are worried about the debt, why don't they just write a check rather than trying to force everyone into tax hikes?

It's because they are hypocrites. Everyone's taxes will be raised, then they will have their accountants work the numbers so that they aren't affected by the tax hikes.

If they are honestly worried about it, then why don't they write checks and just shut up.

Goth you do realize that argument is completely nonsensical, right? If I send the government a voluntary contribution of $750 (that's how much I figure my taxes would go up if these reductions expire) that does not mean anyone else would. If I need to pay extra to get the USA out of this mess I will, however, happily. I'd rather see ALL the tax cuts expire than have all of them extended.

The tragedy is that the GOP gets to talk out of both sides of their mouths, the vast majority of the media lets them get away with it, and the electorate buys their snake oil.

Joe, why do these millionaires want tax increases? Perhaps maybe cutting expenses is a better option. These millionaires are playing with other people's money. They want to pretend they are for tax increases because they know that they will get out of paying their whole tax bill.

We're headed toward becoming a plutocracy, and willful ignorance is facilitating the journey.
