Patti Lupone on Will and Grace tonight

I happened to watch this episode -- don't dabble much in W&G anymore, as I think it's jumped the shark.
Anyway, Sean Hayes' reading of the line "Shut UP, Patti Lupone!" had me on the floor laughing. I don't know -- I think he verbalized what I've been thinking for years.

Yeah, it was great - for once a promo didn't ruin a show - that line came at such a great moment that I wasn't expecting it at all and ended up laughing.
The show was written extremely well (especially if you're a Broadway fan - I'm sure my stepmother, who loves W&G, didn't enjoy it much last night), but I didn't think LuPone was all that good. Although, perhaps that's how she really is and she was just being herself. :)

I appreciated greatly the Jack/Will/Lupone arc.
But the Wooly subplot was just plain BIZARRE.

"was it always so "cartoonish"?
I have to agree. Over the years, the directors of this show have really gone down hill. Jack in the restaurant butters his hand. That gag is so old and has been done so much that it has lost its humor. Lucille Ball did that on I Love Lucy in the 1950's. The directors need to get some new sight gags.

Posted: 2/4/05 at 11:23amIt's just bad T.V., plain and simple. The writing is so uninspired and insipid. If it was a Broadway show, I'd walk out at intermission.

I liked the episode, but I thought Patti Lupone was wasted.
Who were the 4 divas Jack names in the beginning? Bernadette, Idina, Xxx and then he needed Patti.
I loved Grace describing Karen getting shoved in the car, losing her ear and the joke, which I can't remember, ugh, need more coffee.

Posted: 2/4/05 at 11:45amI don't know, this episode didn't do it for me at all. Jeff Goldblum??? What was with the "accent" that Karen (Megan) used? She never talks like that.

I don't think the show has storylines anymore.
I think Karen is too over the top now, she was better subtle, now you expect zingers.
And Will is just boring and whiny.

Posted: 2/4/05 at 12:23pmI think what should happen is that Megan should team up with Christine Baranski and they should do a tv series somewhat like the Odd Couple. Perhaps they are two unsuccessful actresses working as waitresses in New York City.

Posted: 2/4/05 at 12:25pmChristine Baranski bores the pants off of me. I liked that one character she plays for the first 15 years I watched her. Onstage, onscreen, she has one note.

Posted: 2/5/05 at 2:43pmMullally, Stephanie D'abruzzo and Melanie Lynskey (Rose on "Two and a Half Men") all need to play sisters or cousins or something. If we nixed Lynskey, I would LOVE to see a musical (donno which one) starring Mullalley and D'abruzzo.
