I don't think it was 2000 when things got ugly. I think it goes back to Pat Buchanan's speach to the Republican convention in 1992 when he branded the Democrats as the party of "Witches and Lesbians" and got away with it. It marked the end of the "My worthy opponant" style of debate. It was also about then that Rush Limbaugh thought it was fair game to call Chelsea Clinton a dog, accuse Bill & Hillary Clinton of a sham marriage and the Wall Street Journal found a way to acccuse Bill Clinton of murder & cocaine addiction.

And while yes, I've heard folks on the street string together some abusive language toward Republicans I defy anyone to find an elected Democratic official or nationally known liberal pundit that can compare to Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin or Rush Limbaugh. Hell, I still can't believe the speaker of the house got away with calling George Soros a drug dealer.

Miss Sheehan has basically said she is rooting for the other side. She smears all soldiers but says nothing re those who slice off heads & torture

I realize she lost it when her son ( who enlisted - not drafted )died. She is reacting differently than others in the same situation.

I too am rooting for the other side. The side of peace, of life, of not invading sovereign countries, of not killing thousands so a few can gain wealth. That's the side I'm on.
