I'm sorry Cruella -- but if the white woman, Lily Tomlin, were to take on AIATYING - I would probably LAUGH until I cried.
There is a clip of a white gal singing it in some community theatre production on 'That Site"
She's just awful, and it's wrong in so many ways.
Sorry again, I agree with blueflame, 100%.
Me - I had to choose a song to perform for my niece's 16th birthday party a few years ago, and I really wanted to do this one. I practiced and practiced, but no matter how wail-y I thought I sounded, whenever I played it back, it was Julie Andrews.
I sang I Dreamed A Dream instead. And everyone cried. For different reason than they would have cried had I sung AIATY.
I've seen 3 people sing the song splendidly:
Jennifer Holliday
Jennifer Hudson
Rob Maitner
And props to Marty Thomas for being able to sound exactly like Ms. Holliday on the song. So, I guess that really would be 4, but his made me laugh (with him) while the other 3 were heartbreaking.
An actor named Marty Thomas does a pretty funny(in a good way)version on the site that dare not speak it's name.
Bonnie Tyler. She has a version of it recorded and though I love her, she sounds like she's about to hack up a lung. It's laughable.
Rath, I'd love to hear Julie Andrews sing that song! I want to hear one of these playbacks.
Trust me, you wouldn't.
Well, I couldn't do the song justice either. I could hit the notes, but I have no hint of a growl or a wail.
See, Who Has Seen Nancy Winton as Effie Thread. It moved ME to tears, from laughing.
I couldn't bring myself to finish it. But Maybe I should.
oh the end is the best part; my fav is when they hold for applause and not go into Love Love You Baby... I was DYING to hear the Dreams and see their costumes...
It seems the unmentionable site has gotten rid of it.
OH NO!!!!
Oh no. It's still there.
Try AMBOYS DREAMGIRLS
All I can say is that it’s WRONG!!!!
The Wig: Never got out of her face once.
The Acting: My elbows are attached at my hips and I can't move them
The Staging: Not ONE SINGLE lighting cue through the entire thing?!
The Key: It was right where it should never have been for her…. In her vocal chords.
The Set: Ewww.
The Costumes: Ewww.
The Whole Thing: Priceless

I would kill to see Harvey in Edna drag do it.
THAT would work.
But I would have to have a lozenge afterwards.
LMFAO theatrediva...I just saw it...
I think I could do a better version tomorrow when I get my tonsils out, while in my pjs and I'm a white girl....haha.
glorious.
I can't wait to see it again tomorrow, at around 4:20p
10 more minutes here....
I'll probably not report....
Frechie Davis Can't.
Oh, wow. The sad thing is she's not the worst in the cast. I nearly cried from laughing beacuse of that CC.
Edit: I spoke too soon, the bridge is priceless.
