re: People singing to you on your birthday in restaurants

i hate it.
i went to a.c. petersons for my birthday one year and my friend told the waiter it was my birthday. i hid under the table when they came to sing to me.

the worst was at rainforest cafe when they would bring out the huge volcano birthday cakes and yell "vooooooolcanoooooo!!!"

re: People singing to you on your birthday in restaurants

I'm sort of weird about this subject. I hate it when I hear waiters singing to people in restaurants and generally find it distracting and annoying, however I love it when they sing to me. It's like I'm a little princess. YAY! If only they used a spotlight and confetti. *sigh* A couple of years ago, my friends had a mariachi band serenade me for two songs and a third song of my choice. It was AWESOME. I could listen to El Condor Pasa all day.

Abba - My boyfriend loves loves loves the volcano at Rainforest Cafe. We always have to make a special trip there every time he's in town. He's all smiles when he hears them shout "VOLCANOOOOOOO!!" every time, even if it's for another table. It's actually kind of cute.

re: People singing to you on your birthday in restaurants

I hate it. I hate being sung to and I hate doing the singing. "Hey guys, ignore your tables while we gather enough people to go sing off-key to that guy over there who obviously doesn't want to be sung to!"

I remember days
Or at least I try
But as years go by
They're sort of haze
And the bluest ink
Isn't really sky
And at times I think
I would gladly die
For a day of sky

And Starbucks will use the words 'large' and 'small', not pretentious crap like grande and tall.

I hate it. Everyone in the restaurant turns around to look at you and I hate that kind of attention. I don't even like it at private parties when the cake comes out and everyone sings. But-I play along. They mean well!

re: People singing to you on your birthday in restaurants

Funny story: MY dad took me out for my birthday last year. It was in the middle of the day and no one was really there, so the wait staff was very limited. HE told out server that it was my birthday, and the waiter went "I'm sorry, I'm the manager. Everyone else went home. There's no one here to sing."

I absolutly HATE it!!! It's so embarrasing when everyone there stares at you while the servers are clapping and singing all loudly. I've only had it happen to me once at TGI Fridays. After that, I told my family and all my friends to never tell people at a restaurant when it's my birthday.
