Well, I'm looking at a plan with a $200 deductible that would cover everything and would end up running me almost $60 a month.

I looked into vet insurance once when I had a job that offered it. I have two cats, both very young (about 2 at the time), and they never go outside. Both were healthy, had all their shots, and were spayed/neutered. However, because I had adopted them, the vet insurance was going to cost more than my health, dental, and vision combined. For two young, healthy cats, definitely not worth it.
If I had a dog that went outside and needed more frequent vet care, I might consider it.

Posted: 7/2/09 at 5:15pmI actually wouldn't get it. If you are paying $60 a month, with a $200.00 deductible I think that it will end up costing you more. If you are that concearned about it, I would just save it myself rather than through an agency.

My dog of 17 years who recently passed away racked up about $12,000.00 in vet bills his last year of life. I think insurance would have been a good thing!

I said some vets not all read what I typed.
I said "There are vets...."
Not all vets.
Did you know that some vets are cheaper than others?

No you didn't. You said
Why do you need pet insurance? There are vets where they do surgery (some vets don't do surgeries) and they're pretty cheap without insurance.

OMG! I can't believe how much you guys pay for pet insurance! In the UK we pay £12 (about $15) per month with a £50 (say $60) excess or deductable as you call it, to insure Mitzi our vet hating Chorgi. (half Chihuahua, half Corgi). Last year she had a hip operation which cost £400 (oh do the math!) So pet insurance is a deffo for us! Like all insurance though, you don't need to think twice about taking your beloved pet to the vet when needed, be it Parrot or Bulldog.
On the subject of Bulldogs though, I resent the suggestion made on here that French ones are less prone to illness than English ones. Thats just racist and I won't abide it..............
