Just heard this sad news on CNN.
Rest In Peace
This really is sad news.
I was seeing "Orson's Shadow" one evening and heard two gentlemen talking next to me. One voice was VERY familiar and I looked and saw Peter Boyle sitting one over from me. I remember being rather surprised at how thin he looked - but that's always the impression I get when I see someone who's familiar only from TV. He must have been ill for a long time.
I never really cared for "Raymond" but I can't hear "Puttin' on the Ritz" without falling down in hysterics. He was wonderful.

Aahhh....Holy crap.
Yeah, he didn't look like he was doing very well recently. Such a shame...I think I'll need to watch Young Frankenstein tonight.
That's really sad. My parents love him, they'll be devastated.

He will be missed.
I watched "Young Frankenstein" over Thanksgiving Holiday with my mother who had never seen it. I couldn't WAIT for her to see "Puttin' On the Ritz".

I just read on SFGate that he was a Christian Brothers Monk before becoming an actor...what a change in careers!

I thought he only considered becoming a Brother, then changed his mind. Maybe I'm wrong, though.
He attended LaSalle University in Philadelphia which is where he thought about becoming a Christian Brother, or so I thought.
He will be missed very much.
Well, it was SFGate, so who knows how fact checked the info was.
His dad, Pete Boyle, had a children's show when I was a kid - PETE BOYLE'S CLUB HOUSE. I got up very early, every Saturday morning, to watch it. Because of that, I always followed Pete's sons' career. R.I.P. Peter Boyle.

I was pretty surprised when I heard this news. He seemed in pretty good health just a few months ago.
I really was not a fan of "Raymond" on a whole, but I LOVED him and his character. He and Doris Roberts totally made that show for me. That character reminded me so much of my own grandfather.
And, Puttin' on the Ritz. So classic.
For you, Peter:
"Hello, handsome. You're a good looking fellow, do you know that? People laugh at you, people hate you, but why do they hate you? Because...they are JEALOUS!! Look at that boyish face. Look at that sweet smile. Do you wanna talk about physical strength? Do you want to talk about sheer muscle? Do you want to talk about the Olympian ideal? You are a God. And listen to me, you are not evil. You...are...good."
So sad to hear this. I never liked "Raymond" that much, but always thought he was hysterical.
My favorite line of his from the show...
Doris Roberts: Don't treat me like I'm some kind of trophy bride!
Peter Boyle: What contest in HELL did I win?
so, so sad, my favorite role of him was "the monster" in YF......what a talented man!!

I am so sad to hear this. I loved his work, especially in Young Frankenstein. RIP Peter - you will be sorely missed.

The wonderful Doris Roberts commented that she felt like she was losing a spouse.
Halle Berry also gave him credit for helping her get to the dark places she needed to be in her scene with him from "Monster's Ball."
I'm sure the tributes to him have only started.
Rest in peace, Peter.
