What a sweet, sweet thread. Once I figure out how to post photos from the Mac again (RobbO taught me a quick and easy way a long time ago) I will put some up.
My dad died eight years ago this past Sunday. The most gentle, unpretentious and kind man I have ever known. He was totally devoted to my mother, my sister and I, and I was lucky to have been his daughter. I miss him every single day.
Here's to the Dads.

That's my dad and me at the airport right before my plane to Florida took off last month...won't be seeing him until at least September.
I miss him so much, it's ridiculous.

Posted: 6/11/08 at 1:02amI have no pictures of my dad on the computer. And really, we have few in print to begin with, since he's usually the one behind the camera. Nevertheless, I wanted to say how much I'm enjoying this thread already. All of these pictures are just lovely.

My dad, circa...maybe forty years ago. He had his fiftieth birthday a couple weeks ago, and my grandmother set up a little display of pictures of my dad as a kid. He was so cute. God, I love my dad.

What a great thread! I've enjoyed seeing everyone's photos.
Here's one of me with my late great dad, circa 1963. Looks like my paternal grandparents' front yard, probably a Sunday afternoon since that's about the only time I would put up with wearing a dress.

This was taken the summer he and my mom got engaged, at the Borscht Belt hotel where he worked at a busboy and she was the owner's daughter.

Posted: 6/11/08 at 7:58amHoly smokes, Peej! Your dad and my dad were born the same year and my dad worked summers in college at a resort in Lake George, where he dated the owners daughter. Her father wanted my dad to marry her and become his heir apparent. Her name was Margo Eichler.

I find it interesting that so many are describing some type of strained or problematic relationship with their fathers, while the mothers thread from last month seemed to have nothing but positive things.
I just nabbed this photo from my sister's myspace. My sister and dad on a chairlift somewhere... I'm sure I'm nearby. I'm flying home on Friday for a long weekend to celebrate the day, and this thread has made me realize I should probably take the opportunity then and get some pics of the fam, since apparently I don't have many with me.

Her father wanted my dad to marry her and become his heir apparent.
I gather he didn't marry her and married your mom instead?
There wasn't much for my father to be heir apparent to. The hotel went bankrupt when I was 3.
And Lake George was much classier than the Catskills!

Yes, he chose my mom instead. I've always joked to them that I could have been a rich, only child had he married Margo.
Of course, he also went on a date with Grace Kelly, but he only got a kiss on the cheek out of that one.

This is the only photo I have scanned of either parent, and both are missed very much.

Sommsy, there's always been an air of Grace Kelly about you.
I think the DNA from that kiss found its way into your genes.

SOMMS, I believe we've had a conversation before about our respective fathers' Grace Kelly connection.
I'll have to put up my daddy when I get home and have access to my photos of him.

I thought this would be a different kind of thread...or at least turned into another kind of thread by now...
...still, very sweet!

Posted: 6/11/08 at 11:04amI don't have any pictures of my dad online/on a computer. I should get some - especially his younger days. He had the dark black hair and warm skin - my mom always compared him to Omar Sharif. (My daddy's Palestinian, FYI.)

This is a great picture of my Dad with my brother. This would have been just a few months before my Dad's first Father's Day.

This is one of my favorites simply because it captures my Dad's true inner-goofball essence. Once of his favorite pasttimes is mugging for a camera.

And finally, a tribute photo to my maternal grandfather (with my mother). He passed away shortly before I was born, so I never got to meet him, but I heard so many wonderful things about him.

My daddy is more like a brother, and a best friend than a father. But i love him for it and don't know what i'd do without him. This is probably my favourite photo ever of us, and one of him and my mum years ago
