With my NYC trip approaching, I was looking for something different to do there.
Whenever I'm in town I end up doing the same old stuff: theater, shopping, some museums, central park, maybe a concert... I mean, I'm sure NYC has a lot more than that to offer.
I always try to find new stuff to do, preferably things that are not very touristic, but that's quite hard when you don't know many locals (with similar interests) who could help.
Since we all have one big interest in common (theater, and art in general I guess), does anyone have suggestions??
Btw, sorry about any english mistakes =P
I recommend trying Accomplice. It's different. Don't want to say too much without giving it away.
Accomplce
The concept of Accomplice looks interesting. Thanks for the suggestion, Madbrian.
A bit more touristy - but I guess that's because I was a tourist - but I did the 9/11 Memorial Museum, which was absolutely beautiful. Really enlightening, and a truly well thought out and heart-wrenching memorial and museum.
We spent a lot of time in Soho and found an excellent cocktail bar and restaurant called Pravda near Lafeyette St. Plus the High Line was great for a slightly different NYC park experience.
We went to the Brooklyn Brewery too, which was super fun! And opposite an great bar with an equally fantastic rooftop bar adjoined.
Luke-h, I actually planned on going to the 9/11 memorial museum last year but then thought it would be too depressing... I guess I could give it a second try.
Ill definitely check out Pravda next time I'm in Soho. Thanks!
What are you looking for? Less well-known cultural things, like smaller museums? Or social activities, like parties? Or places frequented by locals?
Reginald, what I'm looking for the most are less well-known cultural things to do, but I appreciate any other suggestions (popular with locals more than tourists) that you think are nice to share as well
The High Line

Brooklyn Bridge and Brooklyn Bridge Park

I agreewith Canmark. Brooklyn Bridge Park is quite nice. Be sure to ride the carousel underneath the bridge and then hit Jacque Torres Chocolatier on Water Street.
Walk back to Manhattan over the Brooklyn Bridge and grab some dumplings from a dumpling shop, in China Town.
Thanks for the tips SNAFU and canmark!
I love the High Line, but I've never been to the Brooklyn Bridge Park... I'll definitely check it out (along with JT Chocolatier on Water Street!)
tks again!

Not cultural, but everyone's gotta eat, so:
Smorgasburg in Williamsburg or Brooklyn Bridge Park. And take East River Ferry to get there.

All kinds of interesting food.
I love street markets
thanks, Ex-Siny!
Sorry to bump this up, but I'm visiting the city again in a couple of months so I was wondering, since some of your tips were very useful last year, if you guy have new ones to share.
Thanks in advance! =)

I know it's another museum, but a trip to the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria would be good. Check their screening schedules, too. Their permanent exhibition is well worth a look.
Never heard of it before.... Nice suggestion! thanks Roscoe!
It's a small museum, but it's really great and very well-curated. I also recommend it!
And sometimes, on weekends they have special programs and guest speakers. Today they showed Fraggle Rock and Michael Frith (the conceptual designer) and Kathy Mullen (Mookie) spoke.
Sounds interesting! I'll definitely check it out... also, I've never been to Astoria, so it will be a new place to discover as well. Tks guys!
I took my high school kids there a few years ago, we all loved it.
