Hey guys,
Just wondering how many of you guys with MP3 players currently listen to podcasts (or video blogs or the like). I am well aware of our lovely Sunset and 42nd podcast and I'm currently in the process of setting up some subscriptions and the like but I was looking for some recommendations. I found a few Air America casts I'll be subscribing to. Anything else? Political, entertainment, news...

I listen to 2 Harry Potter podcasts (mugglecast and pottercast), Jim Caruso's Cast Party (because I always miss it on BWW, so it's nice to have it on my ipod) and then of course the lovely Sunset and 42nd...also i like VH1s Best Week Ever podcast.
Also looking for other reommendations!

Besides PodCasts already mentioned, PotterCast and the marvelous Sunset and 42nd, I listen to two Lost podcasts, Delta Park Gets Lost and the Official Lost PodCast.
I really need to branch out more as well

You poor people, listening to S42 is scary.
I also listen to the "official Lost Podcast" which is actually official and made by the producers.
Delta Park which is a pop culture situation.
Pottercast.
I keep looking at some of the Broadway ones, but it is such a crapshoot I am honestly afraid.

Posted: 3/8/06 at 11:07amDefinitely The Onion Radio News, boasting such fake and satirical podcasts as "Jerry Lewis Undergoes Major Gefloigal Surgery." (I've listened to that one about 10 times.) Highly recommended.

Jasobres, Thanks! God, I love the Onion.
Do you have the Subscription URL? Is it available through Itunes?
There's a possibility I won't be using an ipod to listen to podcasts so I know I'll need the URL in order to subscribe.

We should all be subscribing to the American Theatre Wing - Downstage Center podcasts. Some great interviews on there.
I also am on the Jeff Blumenkrantz Songbook podcast.

"We should all be..."
Anything that starts that way gets me thinking "no."
I am about to subscribe anyway though.

My favourite one is the Zedcast. It's Canadian, and VERY funny.

Yeah, I'm usually hesitant to use words like 'always,' 'everybody,' etc, but really, if you're a theatre fan, you're 99.9% likely to get something out the interviews. Plus, it's the ATW. It's as official as we're gonna get.
I am about to subscribe anyway though.
Exactly.

Well, another friend turned me onto Jeff Blumenkrantz's podcast (and I've worked with him, albeit briefly, before, so I should have known better). This thing is a TREASURE!
First of all, I adore Victoria Clark and would shill for her if she needed shilling, but Jeff's premiere podcast features one of the most thrilling performances I've EVER heard in Rebecca Luker's rendition of one of his Milay poem settings. Clark sang it at her Lincoln Center American Songbook series but I'm afraid Luker owns this song. It's a modern-day "I Wish It So."

I also subscribe to Jeff Blumenkrantz podcast, some great performances there!
As well as the ATW podcast, great interviews, though I don't listen it to it as often as I should
and YAY for the many pottercast fans in this thread! Great great podcast! Best for Harry Potter news and updates and just randomness, never fails to make me laugh!
gonna check out the onion podcast when I get home, I love the Onion, didn't know they did a podcast.
Podcasts are one of the main ways I pass the time at work, since they are mostly an 1 1/2 long or so, I try to listen to them towards the end of the work day so it makes the last few hours fly by!

If you like dish - and we all must to a point, or we would not be here so much... Musto's podcast is good. I also get Ebert and Roper. Other than that I get the NPR updates and PBS's Washington Week. NPR also has the Story of the day which I get - it's really fascinating most of the time because it's stuff the mainstream media never gets around to.

Just bumping up the thread since I finally got my mp3 player (the Zen Vision:M, if you're curious).
It's wunderbar.
Also, for those of you looking for fun, entertaining, thought-provoking (or whatever) casts, try Podcast Alley.
It is very thorough and has a ton of casts listed (Sunset/42nd guys, you might want to get listed there, too!). I'm finding some good future downloads there...

Thanks Bway, that site looks great.
It also got me looking around and there are about 10 different sites to add these things on.
* Yahoo! Podcasts
* iTunes
* iPodder.com
* Podcast Alley
* Podcast.net
* Odeo
* Podcast Pickle
* Podnova
*Zencast
*Podcasting News
wow. Of course the imposible things is still weeding out the crap/ trying to get someone to actually find your show that doesn't already know about it.

Agreed. my guess is Itunes was your best bet but now that a lot of people are getting non-Apple mp3 players (I am finally seeing them more and more on the subway these days, although the Nano is unbelievably popular. minor tangent: why buy the freaking Nano when, for $50 more than the biggest Nano you can get a 30GB video player?). I think Podcast.net and Podcast Alley are the most popular non-Apple-related ones.
#22re: Podcasts - your favorites/recommendations
Posted: 3/14/06 at 1:09pmI can not understand the appeal of the "nano" at all. It is not like the Video iPods are big.

Well, and my Zen's the same width and length as the Video Ipod, but a tad thicker. And it still weighs about the same. I can put the thing in my front pocket (it's bulgy but it's not like someone's going to think it's a tumor in my thigh, fashion be damned) so I think the Nano is a colossal waste of time.

Does anyone subscribe to the NY Times Theater Update podcast?
Ben Brantley and Charles Isherwood, New York Times theater critics, and Lawrence van Gelder, Culture reporter, alternate in discussing the latest Broadway and Off Broadway shows.
Is it worth subscribing for?
