Well not only that, but their ability to start posting on the O/T board immediately. I didn't know what the O/T board was at first.

How is it hard for some people to find the off-topic board? The links are right beside the main board links. Admittedly it was not always this way, but it was never hard to realize their were "on-topic" and "off-topic" boards.
I am sure I visited both my first day here.
Of course it was 4 months or more after that before I posted, and I may have started a dozen threads in my time here.

I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

I don't really mind because I know they are just being enthusiastic and happy that they found a place where they can share their love of theatre and "talk" to people who understand. mom

I'm not referring to sock puppets- just genuine posters who are new and eager to get involved. I wanna believe in the best of people Updated On: 12/10/07 at 10:01 PM

IMO-

1. Sock puppets dont start posting on OFF TOPIC right away.
2. Sock puppets post "hi" ..i'm new here" thread..
3. Sock puppets does not start/originate a thread.
4. Sock puppet does not dip right away into political theme threads
5. New poster does not have avatar- he/she still has to figure that out.
6 . and there's no such thing as lurking around... new posters here are usually into theater and their main instinct is to ask question about a certain play or musicals.

If you buy into the sock puppet paranoia and the belief that every new person is a sock puppet, it appears that there are only about 5 or so "real" people that ever participate here. the rest are multiple peronalities and reincarnations of old posters.

Someone only cares about this nonsense if they think this amounts to anything.

And if they do, they have more to worry about than 'sock-puppets'.

"Someone only cares about this nonsense if they think this amounts to anything. And if they do, they have more to worry about than 'sock-puppets'."

That's just it. I don't understand the level of concern that goes into this sock puppet obsession. Maybe it's just that I personally view a message board as a fun diversion and not a major part of my daily life. I can't imagine the researching the claims made by every new person who comes along or pouring through old posts trying to find similarities. It must take an enormous amount of one's time.
I post on a few different message boards related to various interests and hobbies that I have and, interestingly enough. this is the first one I've seen where people are so threatened by every new person who joins.

I find it creepy to be having a conversation with a poster who may be someone I've had previous exchanges with before, but is now acting like a completely different person.
I know it's the net and it can't be avoided (hell, I probably am talking to people like now and don't know it), but when I am aware of it you can bet I don't want to chat with that person.

That makes sense, but you never who you're talking to anywhere on the internet. I think you can safely assume that nobody on a message board the same as who they would be in person. So, I just respond to the online character as I see fit. I can't imagine being so concerned about who they may "really" be that I would let if effect me to any degree. If the online personality says something I don't ike or I discover they are just creating trouble, I simply move on an ignore them.
