Potential "A Star is Born" remake

I think it'd be interesting to see a new version of this story. Years back there were rumors that it was going to be remade with Alicia Keys and Will Smith.

Who would you cast in it if you could?

Do we really need ANOTHER version of this tale? It's already been done thrice.

It's been 30 years since the last one. I doubt most of the younger generation has seen any version of it. There's probably a good chance of the movie getting back on track if Dreamgirls is successful.

Personally, Constance Bennett's version is my favorite. Slighty tawdier.

Hmmm, if they were to re do it today, perhaps Tom Arnold as the goofy friend who always sticks up for her (the out of work director) and for Norman Maine...my pick would be...

this is hard!

Wait...who is a kinda has been, but still attractive? Maybe Warren Beatty, but he may be gettin too old. Would be interesting to see it with him and Annette Bening though.

However, Esther (aka Vicki) is supposed to a fresh faced kid out of the sticks...so perhaps Scarlett Johannsen?

Norman Maine is a tough one. Wait a sec! what if they changed the sex of the good friend? Then I'd cast Joan Cusack.

Costner's work lately leads in this direction, and he might just be able to pull it off.

Costner could work, DG. I'm not too much of fan of his, but he could do it. D'ya think Hugh Grant is too young for Maine's role? I think he could play a drunken struggling actor well.

That's not Esther, that's "Aunt Esther."

I like the Janet Gaynor version the best.

And no... we don't need a FIFTH version of this story on screen again. Four is enough... actually it's one too many already, Babs.

But maybe "A Star Is Hatched" with Tom and Katie would work.

I was raised on the Barbra/Kris version. I loved it. Until Barbra did the weird rooster dance in the final number.

Yes, I know it is sad that I was never exposed to the original or the first remake, but I was born in 76 and my mother loved Kris Kristofferson.
Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

I never got the "to do" over the Garland/Mason version. The only version I like, is the Janet Gaynor one.

Judy is definitely #1......

I think they should cast ME. hehe no seriously. Why not make Esther a REAL unknown from the sticks.......or Canada.........

A remake is absolutely not necessary. If someone is too young to have seen the originals - they're all available on video/dvd.
You can learn quite a lot by watching the classics. Modern remakes RARELY live up to the originals.
"I don't really get the ending,all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang,and later she kissed him on the toilet,after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung,and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen,and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady?Please help me,thank u very much!" Garland is great in her version... So is Mason... but the movie is a bloated, overlong mess.

I like the Gaynor version best because of the "anchoring" scenes at the beginning and end with the grandmother. It "gets me" every time. And Gaynor and March are wonderful.

Darlin' I'm not stabbing you...

...unless you were in the movie.

The Garland-Mason version was the last movie my grandfather was involved with, before he "retired" from Warner Bros. (after 30 years) over a big disagreement with Jack Warner. That film caused MANY a rift with the upper execs at the studio.

Afterwards, my grandparents sailed to Europe with the Lufts (Sid and Judy), and my aunt baby-sat Liza during the crossing.
