Folk? Maybe? Or perhaps "soundtracks".

Posted: 1/6/07 at 9:23pmHi WW, I'm wondering what genre the soundtrack would fall under. I don't think it's country western. Some of those songs are very old-in fact my father recorded a few of them before I was born. I love the music and would like to get some cds.

Posted: 1/6/07 at 9:29pmI guess it would depend on the individual artist. I know Jay Ungar and Molly Mason (my favorite of the regular guests) are listed as Country and/or Bluegrass.

Posted: 1/6/07 at 10:02pmthanks WW, I've been checking it out and it's listed under cowboy and country so far. I didn't check bluegrass.

Posted: 1/6/07 at 10:04pmThe radio show Prairie Home Companion has a wide variety of musical guests-- from operatic to folk, actually. The soundtack seems to feature mostly folk, county & bluegrass artists.

Posted: 1/6/07 at 10:08pmYes, that's what I'm interested in. I like the original artists of some of that music such as Tex Ritter (father of John, I think), Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, etc.

Those are all old country artists. You should be able to find some good inexpensive Best of Collections on Amazon.
And yes, Tex Ritter is John Ritter's father.

I was thrilled to learn that they are coming here in April to do a live taping, and within mere moments my excitement was dashed - They've booked us to cater an event for the cast and Georgia Public Broadcasting patrons that night. I won't get to see the taping, I'll just get to look at them as I clear away their empty plates.
Still bitter.
Might need therapy.

Posted: 1/6/07 at 10:21pmWho's doing a live taping there?
#11re: Prairie Home Companion music
Posted: 1/6/07 at 10:31pmPrairie Home Companion. Garrison Keillor's been here a couple of times for speaking engagements and now they are bringing the whole show here for a broadcast in April.

Posted: 1/6/07 at 10:33pmOh that's great! Wish I could sit in on one of those! I didn't realize they were still doing those shows. I wasn't sure at the end of the film.

We missed our chance of seeing them at the Warfield out here in SF in a couple of weeks. The tickets were sold out already and Ebay scalpers are making a mint off of them.
They record every Saturday night Jane2...it's still a live radio broadcast and they tour around the country all the time.
NPR - Sat at 6pm, Sun at 11am (re-playing).

Posted: 1/6/07 at 11:38pmI'm glad to hear that, Justme. Every once in a while I tune in on Sundays. I wonder why I thought the movie was a factual account of the ending of the show.

Posted: 1/6/07 at 11:45pmThank goodness it wasn't! I'm still wrestling with my work-ethic to see if I can get the night off. My boss is just a big a fan of the show as I am, and if I get to go see it while he is stuck working he may never forgive me.

Posted: 1/7/07 at 12:02amThanks! I'm hoping too, and it's still not an impossibility. Unfortunately, we have another party for 300 that afternoon on top of the GPB party. Our staff is small and is largely composed of weasels, morons and the criminally insane, so it's not looking too good at the moment. I do have until April to figure it out, though.

What is your profession?
eta - I mean, waiter, yes, but are you working at a large venue, or do you freelance?

Cater Waiter. =/
eta for Jane's eta: It's kind of a small-time affair, yes. There's maybe 25 employees for the whole place. The show will be broadcasting from the RiverCenter which is right across the street from my restaurant. They said they wanted to have the party at our place because they didn't have anywhere to host it themselves. I think that's bunk because the RiverCenter is an absolute jewel of a facility with plenty of room and much more swank.

I think we cross-posted.
What's funny is, with any other job on Earth I'd just say, "Screw you guys, I'm going to see Prairie Home Companion." Unfortunately, I've been personal friends with my current boss for the last ten years - our friendship was the reason I went to work for him in the first place. I think he may even be a bigger fan of the show than I am so the idea of blowing off two very large gigs to go see this show when he'd be stuck working (with the aforementioned weasels et al) just makes me feel icky. Maybe I'll reconcile that with my inner sociopath by April.
