Ah! The absurd non sequitor!
Why are we not discussing the rotten economy? If you want a "Namo is a fraud" thread, start one. But come back and address the housing slump, okay?
The economy is booming!! Wake up!
Where did you get your economic news, Al Jezeera?
Ha Ha Ha
No matter how many times you say it, it's still not true.
What color is the sky in your world?
THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. Election Day is around the corner, and one of the biggest issues at stake in this campaign is your taxes. Here is my philosophy: I believe that our economy grows and the American Dream reaches more citizens when you keep more of what you earn. With more money in your pocket, it is easier for families to afford a good education, it is easier for young people to afford the down payment on a home of their own, and it's easier for small business owners to go out and invest and create jobs.

So my administration and the Republican Congress enacted the largest tax relief since Ronald Reagan was in the White House. We cut taxes for every American who pays income taxes. We doubled the child tax credit. We reduced the marriage penalty. We cut taxes on small business. We cut taxes on capital gains and dividends to promote investment and jobs. And to reward family businesses and farmers for a lifetime of hard work and savings, we put the death tax on the path to extinction.
Now the results of these tax cuts are in. The tax cuts we passed have left more than a trillion dollars in the hands of American workers, families, and small businesses, and you have used that money to fuel a strong and growing economy. Last year, our economy grew faster than any other major industrialized nation. This week, we learned that our economy grew by 1.6 percent during the third quarter of this year. As we expected, this rate is slower than in previous quarters. Yet the evidence still points to a vibrant economy that is providing more jobs and better wages for our workers and helping reduce the federal deficit.
Since August 2003, the American economy has created more than 6.6 million new jobs, including over 1.7 million jobs in the past 12 months alone. Real take-home wages are up by 2.2 percent over the past year, which means an extra $1,300 for the typical family of four with two wage earners. And the economic growth spurred by tax cuts has helped reduce the deficit. Tax revenues have soared as the economy has grown, allowing us to meet our goal of cutting the federal deficit in half -- three years ahead of schedule.
All these signs point to one conclusion: Cutting your taxes worked. Unfortunately, the Democrats are still determined to raise your taxes, and if they gain control of the Congress, they can do so without lifting a finger. Under current law, many of the tax cuts we passed have to be renewed by Congress or they will expire. In other words, if Congress fails to act, your taxes will automatically go up. If Democrats take control of the House, the committee in charge of all tax legislation would be chaired by a Democrat who recently said he "cannot think of one" of our tax cuts that he would extend. And if there's no legislation to renew and extend the tax cuts, every tax rate will go back up to its old, higher level.
Take just one example: If Democrats have their way, the child tax credit will be cut in half -- from $1,000 per child to just $500 per child. And think of what that means for your family. Next time you're having dinner at home, look around the table and multiply the number of children you have by $500. That's how much more you will be sending to Washington in taxes if Democrats take control of the Congress. If you have two children, that is an extra $1,000 the Democrats will add to your tax bill every year. If you have three children, that's an extra $1,500. If you have four children, that's an extra $2,000. That may not seem like a lot to Democrats in Washington, but for working families across America, that is real money
Gee, Dakin, I thought for sure you would be happy that I went to the FOX News web site for that latest economic downturn report. I guess you just chose to ignore it. Life's so simple in La La Land, isn't it, Fakin? Um, I mean, Dakin.
Yeah, the stench is fairly powerful stenchwise.
Too bad you couldn't address one point made by the President. But, what could one expect from the party that has no ideas just grievances?

So if cutting taxes caused this present "boom" then why did the economy do so well after Clinton's tax increase?

"Many Republicans did foolishly predict that the Clinton tax increase would cause a recession, but this was itself a misapprehension of supply-side economics. The Clinton tax increase was large in terms of gross tax take, but it left marginal rates well below the 70 per cent Reagan found them at. The top rate for earned income was 39.6 per cent compared to 50 per cent and capital gains held steady at 28 per cent - thus the Reagan tax cuts were eroded, but intact. Marginal rates are more important to work incentives than average tax rates, as they affect after-tax returns on additional income. Additionally, continued disinflation lowered the cost of capital and acted as a sort of tax cut for accelerated depreciation, offsetting the Clinton tax hike. This was followed by a series of pro-growth initiatives once the Republicans took Congress, most importantly lowering the capital gains tax rate to 20 per cent in 1997. Healthy growth then resumed - the Clinton experience does not vindicate those who advocate higher taxes."
one explanation
So if the tax cuts did not cause this boom what did?
And are you admitting that we have a boom?

As I said in another thread, the economy does seem to be doing well for folks at a certain level. To put it bluntly, the rich get richer. A lot of this current "boom" is also caused by the real estate market and the creative financing that has been created by it-- People buying houses well beyond their means and financing it with interest only or ARM mortgages.
And I used the word "Boom" in it's traditional sense-- like the "Boom" in the 1920's. If housing prices continue last months's trend and the fed raises interest rates, we could be in for one hell of a balloon burst.
And interesting piece Kelzama. But before the Clinton economy flourished after a tax hike, the economy had it's greatest growth in the Eisenhower years-- when that top marginal rate had just been raised to 70%. I don't know that raising taxes causes economic boom, but it obviously doesn't completely stifle it at the Bushes maintain.
So, since the economy is doing so well, I guess that means that Congress will finally be able to raise the minimum wage? I'm mean why not throw a scrap to the folk who actually make the economy work?
Anybody benefitting from the Bush presidency will most certainly be in favor and in support of him. I completely understand that. I would fight too, for my tax cuts and the ability to drive a Hummer and write it off on my taxes.
However if you are one of the folk that have had to work an honest day in your life, put your way through college, forgo going to the doctors when you have the flu, and not living off the downhill flow of wealth from their parents... then chances are you are one of the folk who are making this the lowest rated president in our countries history.

Hamlet, broaden your mind. Think beyond the rhetoric.
Entrepreneurs, for the most part, are small businesses who have benefitted from lower taxes. Furthermore, most small businesses are not run by the elite. One of our two cars is ancient; the other is leased, because as a small business owner, I can write off the majority of the lease because it is used for business purposes. Neither is a Hummer, in spite of a recent Hummer promotion that makes the monthly lease payment about as cheap as that of a Ford Focus.
Yes, I've benefitted from tax cuts, and you better believe that is one of my primary concerns in the upcoming election. As I've explained on a previous post, if the gov't raises the min wage, I'll have to axe at least one employee to pay for the raise of the others. That money doesn't grow on trees, nor does the government give it to me. It comes from my (and your) pockets, which, ultimately, is where ANY gov't spending comes from.
Most economists agree that our economy is ticking along because of the Bush tax cuts. It is the same as the Kennedy tax cuts and the Reagan tax cuts!
By the way, ring, ring, playdough. I mean Fakin.

You're a fraud Chanticleer!

You're no J. Edgar Hoover.
Well.....
Dakin, if they economy is as solid as you say it is, then you wouldnt fear an increase in the minimum wage because your business would be thriving enough to absorb the hit. If it is THAT precarious that a minimum wage increase will cause you to lay off a worker and suffer greatly in your pocketbook, perhaps you should re-examine how wonderful it is. Your saying to the guy that has to choose between medicine and food for his family who is working a 40 hr week, "Sorry, I cant support giving you a livable minimum wage, because it would it infringe on MY livable wage." Thats the whole republican idealogy in a nutshell..." I have mine." "Too bad you cant get yours", "I'm going to protect mine", and "Screw you".

The growing economic division in the US is a serious threat to domestic stability. Somebody better wake up to this fact before discontent grows into civil disturbance as it has in the past.
You also shouldn't even be on this website. Due to the cuts in funding for the arts in America by the REPUBLICANS, small theatre comapnies are scrambling to keep their doors open. How much does that debauchle in Iraq cost per DAY???? Not to mention their general stand on "family values" and their anymosity to the gay lifestyle and gay marriage. You support a regime that revels in hate and discrimination, that plays politics with people's feelings and lives. My human rights and equality are manipulated by a political machine that seeks only to keep their coffers full. Shame on them, and you for supporting it. A person who supports the republicans, might as well preach white supremacy...because the veiled hatred of "family values" in the forum of the arts, is just as repulsive.
Could I quote your intolerant extremism in an ad we are making about radical liberlism-your comments sum it all up!
Good Work!
Come out come out where ever you are Playdough, where is he?
Ring Ring!
A republican calling a democratic homosexual actor intolerant is so ridiculous, I can't even come up with a response. I hope that you or your rights are never used as a pawn on a ballot anytime soon, it doesnt feel very good.
I was always told to never enter a battle of the wits with an unarmed man, and this has obviously become just that situation.
Wake up Call: No one cares what you were always told. That's what made you what are, and that is an American Tragedy.
Oh, I get it, the only intolerance in the world is that intolerance that fits your narrow definition. Hilarious!
By the way, do I have your permission to use your intolerant words in an ad promoting Liberal kooks? You are the perfect speciman.
Hamlet, give Dakin your permission... but only after he comes up with some proof that Micahel J. Fox over-medicated on purpose. Maybe that will get us the proof we've been waiting for.
