"I think the coming election a referendum on these two things: Which party has got the plan that will enable our economy to continue to grow? And which party has a plan to protect the American people? And Iraq is part of the security of the U.S. If and when we succeed in Iraq, our country will be more secure. If we don't succeed, the country is less secure...I understand some people in Washington don't think we are at war. They are just wrong, in my opinion. The enemy still wants to strike us. The enemy still wants to achieve safe have from which to plot and plan. The enemy would like to have WMD in order to attack us. These are lethal, cold-blooded killers. And we must do everything we can to protect the American people, including questioning detainees and listening to their phone calls from outside the country to inside the country...and as you know, there were some recent votes on that issue. And the Democrats voted against giving our professionals the tools necessary to protect the American people.

...I do not question their patriotism. I question whether or not they understand how dangerous this world is...

Damn right! Thanks GWB!

Bush: "I believe I'll be working with a Republican-controlled Congress and a Republican-controlled Senate. I understand in Washington people have already determined the outcome of the election. They think it's over. We've got people dancing in the end zones and measuring the drapes. But the American people are going to side on who best to protect the American people and who best to keep the taxes low."

and lil Georgie ran all over the country screaming "The sky is falling, the sky is falling" just like he did in 2004, but this time the American people were smart enough to realize what an idiot he was, and voted in a Democratic Congress, and lil Georgie stuck his thumb up his ass and cried wee-wee-wee all the way home......

"Which party has got the plan that will enable our economy to continue to grow? And which party has a plan to protect the American people?"

Um, I hate to point out the obvious, but our economy hasn't grown at all. As a matter of fact, it's in the crapper

And the American people are not being protected. We are now more dispised the world over because of GWB.

Sorry, but those are the facts.

Keep talking out of your ass.

But Dakin does have a point-- GW and the R's have kept us safe! Other than the 1400+ soldiers who have died in terrorist attacks in Iraq that is! Oh, and the people who died on 9/11. But I think that was somehow the Democrat's fault. I mean, they held all the top offices then and ignored the frantic warnings from the CIA...What? Who did? Condolezza Rice is a Republican? And the House? And Senate? Oh. Then I guess I'm confused.

Somehow with the stock market at an all time high & unemployment ( the europeans are drooling over it )at possibly an all time low,I cannot see how it is in the crapper

People hate us & will no matter what we do. The arab street hated us long before GWB got in so you cannot blame that one on him. 9/11 was foisted on us. Mistakes made in Iraq - definitely

Roxy I think this is a very valid debate- And one that underlines the differences between the major parties. From a Republican standpoint, the economy is all but perfect: Stock market high, record profits and unemployment "just right". Meanwhile, for people of more modest means, things are not so good: Bankruptcies are through the roof (Despite massive restrictions imposed on individuals), "real wages" are down, more Americans are uninsured than ever, more people are working Part-time jobs....I can see why Edwards talked of the "Two Americas."

One statistic that I find very telling is that if Minimum Wage had increased at the same rate as executive pay in the last 8 years, it would be $23.00 an hour.

And again, I'm not accusing anyone of Treason, just urging people to look a little deeper at the issues that divide us.

When you have one side screaming GWB is Hitler & he had advance warning of 9/11 how can you have a rational debate? Politics has become so poisoned that real debate is all but impossible. This board is a microcosm . Many posters, from the other side who spoke their mind, have been kicked off the board.

I am willing to listen to any arguement from anyone as long as it is rational & done without outbreaks of near hysteria & name calling. If a DEM does something I agree with re Hillary's 3 point Iraq plan, I will give them credit. Many times my views have changed along with being changed over time.

All we need is some civility from both sides & we may actually make headway

It is a start - a small step but a step nonetheless

Healthy debate is essential. If I do not agree with you or vice versa, than so be it. For one side or the other to resort to name calling because you do not agree with them serves no purpose. I respect your views ( even if I disagree) & ask it be reciprocated

I'm sorry that the LIBS refuse to acknowledge an economy that has out-performed Slick Willy's best year. Their alternative reality does not permit it.

Don't you all find this line scary:

"If and when we succeed in Iraq, our country will be more secure".

Did he not at some point say he has already won this war?

THE ECONOMY IS GOOD? The economy is not doing well when most Americans' number one investment -- their home -- is losing value at record speed. (The following article also mentions the "bloated trade deficit," which we rarely hear about.) I got this off the FOX website:

GDP Growth Slows to 1.6 Percent in Third Quarter, Weighed Down By Slumping Housing Market

Friday , October 27, 2006

WASHINGTON — Economic growth slowed to a crawl in the third quarter, advancing at a pace of just 1.6 percent, the worst in more than three years.

The latest snapshot of the economy, released by the Commerce Department on Friday, showed that the slumping housing market figured prominently in the economy's dramatic loss of momentum. Investment in homebuilding was cut by the biggest amount since early 1991.

The reading on gross domestic product was weaker than the 2.1 percent pace many economists were forecasting.

Gross domestic product measures the value of all goods and services produced within the United States and is considered the best barometer of the country's economic standing. Friday's report provided the last GDP reading before the Nov. 7 elections.

Economic matters are expected to influence voters' choices when they go to the polls. President Bush's approval rating on the economy is at 40 percent, among all adults surveyed in an AP-Ipsos poll. That remains near his lowest ratings. The people surveyed trusted Democrats more than Republicans to handle the economy.

The third quarter's 1.6 percent growth rate was the weakest since the first quarter of 2003, when the economy grew at a 1.2 percent annual rate.

The latest performance underscores just how much speed the economy has lost this year.
