I was blown away by the winner's collection--I was honestly impressed by the other two, but the winner was fantastic: a clearly articulated vision, a unique personality, variety but clearly a coherent collection and some of the patterns and craftsmanship were outstanding.
I really didn't see it coming, and I was knocked out.

Kristin--Thanks for the heads-up about Austin's collection. The video quality was so bad--are there actual photos somewhere on the site?
Considering he had 1 month (!) to put the show together, it was amazing, and I liked the silhouettes of some of the pieces a lot, but I thought it was overly simple and derivative--very Ralph Lauren. Again, though, with only one month, there wasn't much chance to be anything other than very simple. I would so much have preferred to see what Austin would have produced with 12 weeks instead of Wendy P, but Bravo would have missed out on all that D R A M A.

Personality wise, I am glad at who won.
I hate to admit it though...Wendy the shrew's clothes were the ones I actually liked. I just don't get high fashion...I am a preppy kind of dresser.
My favorite line last night - Jay and Kara getting ready, and Jay saying Wendy is probally in the elevator crying...cut to her doing exactly that.
And it did seem Wendy was parading that kid around to try and humanize herself a little bit - she is still an nasty piece of business in my book.

This has to be the best of the bunch in terms of reality shows, especially since there was a goal in mind (the runway show) instead of just a financial prize.
I was a little disappointed in the way Kara Saun behaved last night (especially about the shoes).
I was not at all surprised that Jay won.
I kind of liked what Wendy came up with, but I just thought her choice of music wasn't the best. Just watching on TV you could get a sense that the energy left the room when her music came on. I forgot that she actually won 2 of the challenges.
It would have been nice to see what Austin would have come up with had he been given 12 weeks to produce a line of clothes for the runway show.

Wendy's palette was beautiful, and the tailoring was lovely--I LOVED it when Michael Kors called her a talented "tailor"--talk about damning with faint praise. Her clothes are perfect for Middleburg, VA; she will be very successful there.
I think they edited the show to put the previously-saintly Kara in a very dark light, so that people would be more ambivalent about her and more pleased with Jay's win. Also, I couldn't help but feel sorry for Wendy, imagining her mother and daughter watching her being trashed so loudly and strongly.
LOVED Jay in his wig--he looked like Cartman!
And my Tim, how CUTE is he????

Oh, me too. And I loved how the little kid made it so that Wendy and Kara had to make nice--you have to be pretty cold to hold a grudge with that little girl staring you in the face.
I wish Kara had let go of all that negativity and really taken the high road in dealing with Wendy in NYC--the screaming match really turned me off.

bta, I concur about the fighting as well. What a waste of valuable energy. I give Jay credit for trying to look at Wendy in a different light. I think it's much easier to acknowledge someone's presence (even if you don't care for them) as opposed to ignoring them.
I just took a look at Bravo's site and Austin's show was wonderful. Imagine what he could have come up with if he had more time. I also feel bad for him because he indicated that the reviews about his show weren't so great.

And I can't help but think that they kept Wendy for drama, which is fine as far as it goes, but SO unfair to Austin. In the final judging--regardless of the specific last design--how in the world could they have looked at the totality of Austin's work and Wendy's and chosen Wendy???
And imagine the positive energy and fun of the final show with Jay, Kara and Austin.

A Jay, Kara & Austin finale would have been great. But I don't want to take anything away from Wendy either. I think Austin will do just fine in the long run.
From the episodes I saw (I missed the first two), it looks like Jay didn't win any of the individual challenges along the way, but he won the most important one.

That's a good point--Jay never did win any challenge, and Wendy won two--but the consensus from the judges (and me) was that she lacked an authentic, contemporary vision. The word "dowdy" kept coming up in relation to Wendy, and while Jay never won a competition, he presented a consistently coherent and personal vision.
We don't need a Wendy Pepper house of fashion--we have Ann Taylor. She can have her little shop in Middleburg, boosted with the exposure from "Runway" and have a perfectly successful career that she can be proud of. Jay and Austin both have real futures in fashion, and I think it was a shame to waste Austin's big chance in favor of fanning the flames of reality -TV drama.

My sentiments exactly. I think they will all do well for themselves. It sounds like Kara Saun was well connected before this show. I really admired her work. Though I didn't particularly care for Jay's designs, I could appreciate the work and vision he had.
It would be nice when and if they continue this program that they use a different designer as a judge rather than "what's his name" (name escapes me).
I think Tim was a definite asset to the show. He was able to give criticism without being mean and catty (unlike what's his name). I do apologize.

Absolutely. I was hoping for a lot more emotion (can't deal with it in my real life, but want it in my TV life!) in the finale.
Parker Posey?! WTF????
Nina Garcia--not clean, not nice and not very insightful. The other chick from Elle was way better. I would like to hear more from the judges in every episode. I don't mind Michael Kors, but he's not giving us a lot of good criticism; they should try someone else next year.
Tim Gunn as a judge--I love that idea Dottie!

bta - don't ever change your avatar. It's like I'm chatting with him!!!
It will be interesting to see if they do any revamping with the next incarnation.
It would have been nice if they selected the winner live (like the Apprentice and Survivor does). So the finalists would have had to wait a few weeks, but that at least would have been better than the non-reactionary ending that was shown last night.
