If you have Netflix, I want to urge you to get "Public Speaking". It's an interview with Fran Lebowitz. She is one of the character types that is missing in NYC today, that crusty New York type. She is hilarious when talking about tourists in Times Square. And there are clips throughout the movie with her taking questions from a speaking engagement. I'm amazed at what a wonderful extemporaneous wit she has.

Not to mention that it was directed by Martin Scorsese. I enjoyed it too.
I loved it.
I wish Scorsese did more documentaries, and not just rock concert centered ones. The Last Waltz is a classic but I think when Scorsese does one on one with another subject he knows well, a specific kind of New Yorker, it really shows.
Have always adored Fran Lebowitz! Have never seen this! On the top of my list!!

I love the fact that she still drives the first car she ever bought in the 1970s. She really is an interesting person.

Fran is the closest thing I have to a role model (except I hate cigarettes). The movie just scratches the surface. I haven't heard them yet, but I love that Fran recorded her books on tape!
I'm a longtime fan of Fran. I have her books and always look forward to seeing her either in person or on tv. For some reason, this documentary disappointed me just a little. Oh well, maybe it was my frame of mind at the moment.

Jane2, what bothered me about the documentary was all those intercuts (Baldwin, Dorothy Parker, Truman Capote). I just think it should have been all Fran.

I saw Taxi Driver again not long after seeing Public Speaking and the shots of Travis and Fran driving in their respective movies were very similar.
Gotham, I think I had expected to hear more of her anecdotes like her book Metropolitan Life.
