TheatreDiva, a few people are concern trolling that Miley Cyrus twerking + a white rapper (Macklemore) winning Best Hip Hop Video at the VMAs is the worst appropriation of black culture by white people ever in the history of the world. The Huffing Post ran an editorial that implied Macklemore shouldn't have won anything because he's a white rapper and that's not okay.

Le1f is riding that wave of criticism to get a little more publicity. He had a about two weeks in the spotlight last year when his mixtape dropped and some high profile radio stations included him on their playlists and tried to make him happen. It didn't work. He's still unsigned and facing the challenges of being an out gay man in the rap game.

You know Phyllis, I'm not a fan (but I am curious about how he walks into a club) but I have to say I think the song's situation of being assertively straight but worried about being "gay" is actually petty brilliant. More and more "gay" is being peeled off from a sexual identity and seen more as a...lifestyle? a weakness? Kids use "gay" without any thought to sexuality. And I think a lot of perfectly straight boys are terrified they might be "gay." It's a pretty universal situation.

I love the statement. If a goofy song is enough to get people talking and saying things out loud, I am okay with that. The chubby chick wailing the hook is gay, so I am good with it.
