I am planning to come into the city by train on Saturday to see a matinee. I've just read that there may be a transit strike (subways, busses) at midnight tomorrow. My question, if this happens, what are my chances of getting a cab to and from the theatre district/Times Square area? Seriously, no joking around (Walking that far is out of the question for me). Should I go in or stay home?
Thank you.

You *just* read about it? Honey, where have you been? The city has been having agita over this crap for DAYS!
I'd stay home. It's probably not going to be worth it...the city is going to be bedlam.

Are you coming into Grand Central? Port Authority? Penn Station? What street are you going to?
I would be prepared to walk. My boss keeps imagining I can just find a cab (or town car) to work. HELLO?!?! Logistics!?!? 7 MILLION people will be without transportation. Good luck finding anything but your own two feet.
Grand Central Station then to 45th and Broadway.....
oh, that's only 11 blocks. suck it up!
That's not far...just walk it
okay, stupid question. if the strike happens will it have any affect on NJ Transit trains and/or Penn Station?
That's a short walk, and you'll never find a cab.

"if the strike happens will it have any affect on NJ Transit trains and/or Penn Station?"
No, it will only affect city subways and buses.
thanks gothamp. i was wondering if it would affect the LIRR. i guess the only affect will be with cabs. sidenote: is the loews lincoln square theatre far from penn station?
i want to see brokeback mountain this weekend and it's still not playing in philly so i was going to trek into the city but now...
The Lincoln Center Loewes is about 20 blocks north, and maybe 5 crosstown blocks. It's definitely a HIKE- esp. if it's cold.
I know, and why the heck isn't it playing in Philly? I mean, I know it'll probably be March before it plays in South Jersey, but I expected more out of Philly.
so, you're offering to pick me up at penn station, then cheno? how sweet. i'll look for the honda decked out in holly hobbie decals.
I'm a classy bitch. I drive a Bentley.
Calvin- it's not playing at Ritz 16 in Voorhees?
nope. the ritz totally let me down too. i'm very surprised.
Surprising. When I was home in Cherry Hill for T-giving, I saw a bunch of stuff at the Ritz, and they showed that preview every time.
hey, calvin, although it didn't show up yesterday brokeback mountain is playing at the ritz on walnut street starting on friday!!
and now it's showing up at the ritz 16 in voorhees, too!
kewl beans!
I love the Ritz 16. So comfy, and good coffee and desserts.
Plus it's cheaper than movies in NYC which are now up to $10.50.
Hooray! I finally get to catch up.
