RIP Martin Milner

Actor Martin Milner has died.  For those of us who grew up in the 1970s, we remember Martin Milner in Adam-12.

He also starred in Route 66. In addition, he was in that WIlliam Castle howler "13 Ghosts"

 

Adam 12 was his best remembered role, however. R.I.P.

I grew up in the 70s and always find it incredibly sad when someone prominent from that decade passes. Karen Black immediately comes to mind and now Martin Milner.  I remember him vividly from watching Adam-12 when I was young, and  I have recently seen many of the old episodes on MeTV.

I think it was Adam 12 where I learned that the police have to read you your rights when you are arrested.

You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in court. You have the right to an Attorney. If you can not afford one, one will be appointed for you.

It's commonly referred to as the Miranda warning because of the name of the case in which SCOTUS's ruling made it a legal requirement. It's often used as a verb as in "Did you Mirandize the suspect?"

His roles on ROUTE 66 and ADAM-12 solidified him as a TV icon. I also remember him as "Wally", the young man who carries a torch for Natalie Wood in MARJORIE MORNINGSTAR and as "Mel", Patty Duke's long suffering boyfriend in VALLEY OF THE DOLLS. 

He was a very talented actor.

He was in a ton of tv shows in the 50's & 60's but Adam 12 was his signature role

13 Ghosts I'm guessing.

 

 

Interesting bit of Adam-12 trivia for those who grew up with it like I did... the woman who voiced all of the radio calls for Adam-12 during the title sequence and throughout each episode, was in real life an actual LAPD radio dispatcher who continued her regular day job while she went to the studio on her off hours and recorded the radio dispatch calls for the show.

Adam 12

 

Both were police procedurals produced by Jack Webb. Webb starred in Dragnet . In the 80's , Ed ( Married With Children) O'Neill starred in a failed version of a Dragnet reboot with Ed playing the Webb role
