Another great performance was THE MAN IN THE GLASS BOOTH.
Brilliant in Judgment at Nuremberg. RIP
I loved his performance in Julia (1977). I had such a crush on him.
Julia! Perhaps the most precisely and beautifully acted brief performance in the history of movies.
Love him...and he was so sexy in Topkapi!
Topkapi! Perhaps the sexiest appearance in the history of movies (lol). But seriously, yes! he and Mercouri together - now that's chemistry!
His death was loss enough but with Hoffman's following so soon after it is too much in to short a time.

I've got news for you. People die every day, It's a fact of life. There is no daily quota.
I always think of two things first:
Judgment at Nuremberg, as many people do, for obvious reasons
But also his wonderfully strange comic turn in a movie full of wonderfully strange comic turns, The Freshman, where he plays an eccentric chef hired to cook a Komodo dragon for Marlon Brando.
^ Am I making it up that BD Wong plays his lover in that? Or sous chef? Or lover/sous chef?
I haven't seen The Freshman in a long time, but I loved it. It was during the height of my Penelope Ann Miller phase.
So handsome!

Totally talented
and
totally hot.
And an Oscar nominated documentarian for "Marlene" as well.
He totally does! Well, not really. Wong plays Schell’s assistant, but Schell’s character is kind of weirdly obsessed with Miller’s character, and not in a fatherly way. I never thought the movie was saying they were gay for each other.

One thing about Melissa Gilbert is that when she did the tv version of The Diary of Anne Frank, she was surrounded with top notch talent. Max Schell as Otto Frank, Joan Plowright as Mrs. Frank, James Coco and Doris Roberts as the Van Daans, Clive Revill as Dussel.
