So, I don't mean to derail your thread, Phyl, but is anyone else not buying this "Jason Sudeikis, movie star" thing? I know that artists can evolve, but the leap from 'reliable sketch comedian' to 'dramatic film star' is wider than the Grand Canyon.

I can't believe they turn this into a story about the ego of the black race and winning some kind of running competition in Germany during WW2.
The biggest horror of history, the extermination of millions of Jews, Poles and Romani, being executed at that very moment in the gaschambers of Nazi Germany.

If you actually cared to look into this film, you would find that this event was rather huge in regards to Black History, and the story of how he was able to overcome huge adversity is pretty remarkable.
You also would find that this a huge part of this story is how the Nazis were able to hide the horrors going on. It's a new perspective, but since this focuses on a black guy, of course it's about nothing else but ego for you.

What was happening there overshadows every celebration of winning a running competition.
Millions of people executed at that moment that has nothing to do with black history.
This is like making a film of 9-11 with the plot focusing on some women visiting NYC who are arguining about men versus women salaries.

This man was the exact polar opposite of Hitler's Aryan ideal of the human species and gee, it sure would be bad if a sub-human (known by the civilized world but perhaps not Dave19, as a black man), beat the German at the Olympics ("some kind of running competition in Germany" -- Dave19, the dude who knows everything) that were designed to show off the superiority of Germany and its Nazi leadership. I guess people who aren't racist will have to see it to learn how it turns out.
PS, Dave19. Help us clarify, are you merely ignorant or genuinely stupid? I mean, you say you know ALL ABOUT the history of racism. But this was an incredibly significant chapter in that history and you, as ever, appear to know nothing.

This film is about the biggest tragedy in the world. Shoehorned into a side story of people who are not even getting mass-killed, but just want recognition for a game.
I hope there is a scene somewhere in the end where the leading character comes to his senses.

You can tell by the preview that this is about the moral conundrum Owens found himself in, as a second class citizen in his own country being asked to go to Germany in 1936. And because you are an expert on everything, you already know Krystallnacht did not happen for another two years. You also know that organized killing did not begin until 1939.
The world considers Jesse Owens a hero. You, are understandably considered an imbecile here.

And this film isn't about the Holocaust per se--it's about Jesse Owens. They decided to tell his story because it is also a story worth telling.

I really do not get Dave19's argument here. There are Many movies already in existence about the Holocaust. There are also hundreds of movies about people doing things with the backdrop of Nazi
Germany without discussing the extermination of Jews. I guess he just wants attention being argumentative.

The mass killings began in 1941 Dave.
The olympics were in 1936 Dave.
The Nazis were in power and to be beaten handily by a black man while the whole world was watching the Olympics was the kind of humiliation NOBODY ELSE was able to deliver Dave.
