Okay, I am trying to learn more about cooking and am looking for recommendations on food and recipe magazines. My skills are very, very basic, and I know some of these have more complex recipes, but I am just looking for some inspiration. Here is what I was thinking so far, not sure what to choose from:
Cooking Light
Food & Wine
Bon Appetit
Food Network Magazine
Thanks!

Bon Appetit is the best in my opinion. I've been a subscriber for 30 years.
Some of their recipes can be on the complicated side. But that's what can inspire you, and that's how you stretch and learn.
Another good one is Cook's Illustrated. It's as much about learning techniques and understanding why you do things a certain way. Very good for people with basic skills trying to improve.

Fine Cooking is a very good choice. http://www.finecooking.com/
I'd pass on Food Network magazine.
Cook's Illustrated as recommended above, is good too.

Cooking Light is a good choice. I have yet to come across a recipe that was difficult to follow.
Another favorite of mine is Cooks Illustrated which is by the people who do Americas Test Kitchen on PBS. Every year they have a bound edition of that years magazines.

I would say as an alternative to magazines, look on the web. Pick a dish that interests you, search for it in Google, and you'll find many possibilities. Choose what seems the simplest among them. I've found many wonderful recipes that way. Simple is often the best.
Good luck with your cooking, and let us know if you find any good recipes.

There are also some great online cooking resources if you interested.
One of my favorites is skinnytaste.com While the emphasis is on healthy/lower calorie stuff, I haven't tried a single thing that was delish and easy to make.

Posted: 3/31/14 at 8:24pmI used to use books and magazines, but I find nothing beats the net. For one thing, if I have an idea of something to make, I google it and can choose from tons of different recipes for that one thing. Another thing-if I'm watching a show on tv where they made something that looks good, they always have the recipe on line right away.

Posted: 3/31/14 at 8:31pmThanks everyone! I picked up Cooking Light and Bon Appetit to check out. I am also thinking about getting a Cooks Illustrated book, so I held off on buying the magazine. Of course I'm always scouring the Internet for recipes, but just thought it'd be nice to have some magazines on hand to look at on my commute each morning.
