Genetic scientists warn that redheads are a dying breed; soon they will become extinct in the next 100 years. National Geographic magazine reports that less than two percent of the world’s population has the natural red hair.

See? See what all those insults have done?!!
I was a semi-copper top as a kid. My mom had red hair and freckles and my dad was olive-skinned with black hair. I ended up somewhere in between.
I looked like Opie when I was a little kid, but the older I got, the darker my hair got. By the time I was in junior high, it was darker brown with some red to it. By the time I was an adult, most people had no idea that I was a redheaded young child.
Still, once upon a time, I was a closet ginger.
I'm a dying breed!!!
My dad was a sandy, my sister an auburn and my other sister a carrot top. My brother and I both had red facial hair. None of their children are ginger.
Save the gingers!
What's bizarre is that they say redheads have been around for over a thousand years, but they're going to disappear in the next 60-100?
Even if they're mutating out of the gene pool, that seems awfully fast.
And just because they don't marry other gingers doesn't mean the gene won't continue.
I actually have two friends, one blonde and one dark haired with no traces of red hair, and they had a redheaded boy. Bright red. He looks just like the dad (before you make any wise cracks), but with red hair.
Turns out his maternal grandmother was a redhead. So it skipped a generation.
Don't count 'em out yet!
I think these scientists are just a bunch of ginger-haters.
Bastards.
Me as a wee tot with my maternal grandma ... making a total mess.
thats sad. i always thought women made better redheads, until i started watching Homeland and Sgt Brody! yummy!

Loves me some redheads--always have.
Well, I used to was.
That photo is one small step away from a Daguerreotype. It was *cough* years ago.
But I humbly thank you, and my Meema thanks you, too!
Does this count as red?
