"This has worked wonders for DiCaprio's sex appeal."

When did DiCaprio have sex appeal? It probably happened during The Amazing Race and I missed it.

Elf was a good movie (but there was a period where I couldn't stand it- I was working in a movie theater that got it, and the Christmas season was hell because that sold out at least once a week. Also because I had to work on Christmas)

Worst movie of 2004, as I can never stress any further- PD2: The Royal Engagement. Love the first movie, thought it was cute, Anne Hathaway making a great break into the acting scene (and let's just face it- Robert Schwartzman(Carmine) was hot).

PD2- HORRID. Mia wasn't as appealing, neither love interest was good, a rehashing of all the biggest jokes in the first movie.

And let's not forget the biggest sin committed in the entire film- UPSTAGING JULIE ANDREWS SINGING FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS.
"During this performance, please feel free to let your cell phones and pagers ring willy-nilly. However, do remember that there are heavily-armed knights on stage and you might well be dragged up and impaled." (Pre-curtain announcement at the new Broadway musical Monty Python's Spamalot)

EvelynNesbit-

I read your thoughts on Spider-Man 2 (all of them), and I still feel the same way. It is one of the best films of 2004. Sorry you can't see that.

PS - I don't like Tobey Maguire, either. Why he is considered one of the generation's best actors is beyond me.

He's still got the adolescent boy voice but is getting meatier. There was even a hint of a double chin when he was on Oprah earlier this month. Given that we all knew he'd never be ripped, a heavier DiCaprio is more than sufficient -- for me at least.

You don't need to be sorry. I don't want you to change your mind -- especially since I won't. :) My evaluation? It was a disappointment.

Well, I'll bet he's a nice, shy guy in person to the extent that some people would even call him antisocial. But I don't think his true calling is acting. He seems to be a closet intellectual like his good friend Leonardo DiCaprio.

Juat thought I would put my two cents in....the WORST movie I have seen in a long time was. "I heart the Huckabies". I was actually mad as hell when I left the theatre because I knew I would never get that hour and forty-five minutes back! EVER!

Now, look, Im pissed again!!

Ok, I for one think that Tobey Maguire is a great actor. Have you ever seen him in WONDER BOYS and CIDER HOUSE RULES? I thought he was PERFECT!!! The problem is, that he is seriously type-casted as the young man trying to find his destiny. I think he hasn't found the right movie to emphasize his acting ability. Also, he was the perfect Peter Parker. He is JUST LIKE THAT in the earlier comics. Everything that Tobey does, screams Peter Parker. Granted, this is my opinion and I am not trying to persuade anyone to follow my opinion..........But still. re: remembering the alamo and 2004's other awful movies

OMG. I saw 9 Dead Gay Man because it said that it was like a John Waters (I think that is correct) movie and I rented it and literally fell asleep. GAH!!! So bad.

re: remembering the alamo and 2004's other awful movies

So, am I the only one who thinks DiCaprio has gotten hot?

As for CIDER HOUSE RULES and WONDER BOYS. Hmmm well Cider House Rules just never excited me. *shrugs* I wasn't even a fan of the Oscar-whoring guy from the first Alfie in it. There was something about the pacing of Wonder Boys that made it a big flop. I think it even closed early and then was released months later. Anyway, because I didn't enjoy either film, I can't buy them as examples of Maguire's greatness. I have a feeling he might shine in a very, very small supporting role like Jude Law's role in ROAD TO PERDITION.

Wonder Boys is one of my favorite movies (and the book is HILLARIOUS), but to each his/her own. But, at least you said that Tobey has a possiblity of impressing you. re: remembering the alamo and 2004's other awful movies The one thing that impresses me about Tobey above everything else, is that he actually cares about the roles he gets. He has said numerous times that if a script is not good, he will not do the movie. I think a lot of actors today go "Hey, I need more money" and then just jumps into whatever movie is available coughcoughnicolekidmancoughcough. But, again.....just my opinion.

re: remembering the alamo and 2004's other awful movies

Hey, I actually thought at one point that Maguire might make a decent Harry Thaw in a new movie or miniseries version of RAGTIME. He has the look, but probably not the edge. Sidenote: I saw some recent photographs of him at a Lakers game and he does appear to be gaining weight! Yay!

It's nice to see people putting "just my opinion" disclaimers in their posts. Such a far cry from October when heads were getting bitten off for differences of opinion! But I guess the real troll behind all that sh!t has finally stepped back and figured out something better to do with his time. Sweet.
