I'm not really following the last ten or so pages, because I finally had time to sit down and watch the entire RENT dvd, extras and all..
During the hour and whatever long documentary, I found myself getting so emotional when the cast and crew talked about Jonathan.

I didn't read the first 20 pages. Sorry if that's how it came across.
Anyway, I didn't have a problem with the direction.. I just thought it should've had more songs and not so much dialogue.
