I don't usually plug products. And I had nothing to do with this one. No shilling here!
I just bought a DVD collection of retro TV commercials. For those of you who dig 'em, like me, there are a lot of DVDs out there to choose from. Some are bootlegs, some legit. But I decided to order this legit set on a whim, because it was so cheap, and it's blowing me away!
These are all commercials from the '50s to the '70s. On every subject imaginable. It's a 3-disc DVD set. And you can order it for $9.79! And it's SIXTEEN HOURS of old commercials. Truly exhaustive. I'm not even halfway through it yet. Unbelievable.
Yes, the quality varies. Some suck, some are really good. Most are in between. But for those of you who remember the spots, this is more about igniting your memories than about "quality" of disc image.

Everything is categorized by subject: Food, Toys, PSAs, etc. And each commercial has a chapter stop on the DVD, which means you can hit your "chapter forward" button and skip directly to the next one, if you want to. No other commercials DVD I've seen has this feature. Very nice.
I usually let you know about sales and such, here. But this was too good a "deal" to pass up. If you dig old commercials, order this set. You won't believe it.

Posted: 9/5/09 at 7:07pmDoes anyone remember a commercial from either the late 60s or 70s with Marty Feldman? He was being bothered by a fly and couldn't seem to kill it. He finally rolled in a cannon and fired. He was left in the rubble with the fly buzzing around him.

Holy crap, SNAFU! Is that for real? If it were any other company than "Mego," I would say no. But this looks legit, winky-wink and all.
Love it.
Can't say I've seen that one under the "Toys" section. Mostly freaky stuff like this:

"The ninety-nine center, the ninety-nine center. Two finger licking pieces of chicken, roll and cole slaw."
Those broads who used to sing that killed me when I was a kid.

This was one of the commercials I just watched on the DVD. I don't know which is worse or more disturbing: a doll that pees or the "bad seed" girl who plays with it.

Posted: 9/5/09 at 8:47pmBest, that was real. I remember the ads on TV and my parents were appalled! The commercials aired for a short time and then disappeared.

That Ball Buster commercial sent me on a youtube tangent and I found this:

I still have trouble believing this commercial actually aired, it almost plays like a parody:
