I watched the 6 min. preview and just about died.
50 min. EXTRA!!!!!!
Honestly, the "new" scenes they showed made me cry just watching this preview. I'll be hysterical while watching the actual movie.

OK, quick opine. My favorite of the three, theatrical cut AND extended cut, is Fellowship. The movie is just perfect. My wife and I watched it the otehr night and when Galadriel started in with the prologue I literally teared up. Sad, huh? I'm such a geek.
Though I loved the Two Towers in the theatres, I actually had problems with the pacing in the beginning. But the extended cut is brilliant.
My wife and I were two of the blessed few who went to Trilogy Tuesday. So I saw ROTK before anyone else did, along with back to back extended cuts of Fellowship and Two Towers. Pure bliss! That was a twelve hour day of LOTR. I can't WAIT for this extended cut to come out to repeat that day in my home theatre with ALL extended cuts!!!!!! Why does the time pass so slowly?!?!?!?

Yes, my favourite is also Fellowship (but I love all three of them, and Return is a close second -- it's such a cathartic experience).
Besides being a poignant and melancholic film of such surprising and rich beauty, Fellowship helped me come to terms with September 11th, as I'm sure it did for others, too. I've never in my life wept so hard in a cinema as the first time I saw the scene where Gandalf confronts the Balrog; watching it, I couldn't help but be reminded of the NY firefighters who ran into the WTC towers, to selflessly confront something much bigger than they. The philosophy behind the first film ("all you have to do is decide what to do with the time that is given to you"), and indeed for the entire trilogy, really hit a deep chord in me. Isn't it strange how healing art can be sometimes?

Posted: 12/4/04 at 4:16pmIan McKellen was robbed of an Oscar!!! Sorry but I watch Fellowship last night and as much as I like Jim Broadbent, it was robbery.
#20re: Return of the King: Extended Edition
Posted: 12/4/04 at 4:52pmIt's true. I also felt Ian McKellen should have won. His Gandalf was perfect and such a majestic presence in all three movies (especially the first one).

Posted: 12/4/04 at 8:42pmI personally like Gandalf the Grey better than Gandy the White. He seems more grandfatherly and I felt his performace was a tad better. Not saying that the other two were bad! I think he was the best actor cast in the trilogy.
#22re: Return of the King: Extended Edition
Posted: 12/4/04 at 9:31pmthats because gandalf the white is a completely different person then gandalf the gray. but this is going to complete my collection, complete with the gift items that they've had. i only wish i didnt have exams the week it comes out on dvd. so ive got to wait till after im done to go get it. 10 more days until it comes out :) im going to watch all 3 (689 or so minutes) with the cast commentary, thats my favourite way to watch the movie. and you can learn Dom's fun games like cup and tig.

Oh the cast commentaries are the best! haha.
Dom: "The first time Eljiah went to land on Buckleberry Ferry he missed and went flying completely over it"
Elijah: "Yes but I did a fantasic swan dive."
Dom: "About an 8.5"

YAY! I'm officially obsessed with the LOTR trilogy. I can't wait for it to be released and in the near future I will find a day and stay in all day with lots of food and watch all of the three extended versions in a row.
YAY for Viggo and you just HAVE to love Elijah! And don't get me started on Gollum.
