Was thinking about Shirley Valentine.
funny movie, except for the 10-12 minutes it took me to "get" and understand the accents
Saw the play 10 times on Broadway.
Saw it again in Dublin.
Own the movie.
Glebb, I love you more every damn day.
Aww Rath, I've loved you since my very first BWW visit.
:)
I only saw the play once, on Broadway. (As I remember it I saw Vanessa Redgrave, Maggie Smith and Margaret Tzychek in the same week).
How fantastic must it have been to see SV in Dublin.
Did Pauline play it there first?
It was Anita Reeves in Dublin. Wonderful, but my heart belongs to Pauline. We became quite friendly while she was here.
WOW! That is so cool.
Pauline was soooooo good in the show.
She was amazing.
She wrote a book which you should get your hands on called Letter to Louise. Don't know if it's still in print.
The funny part of it all is that when the movie came out, of course I hadn't seen her for quite a while, and as soon as the opening shot came up - the one of the camera following her walking home with the groceries - I burst into tears. I'm sure everyone in the theater thought I was insane.
Both the play and the movie were perfect things!
"I'm going to Greece for the sex! Sex for breakfast! Sex for dinner! Sex for tea! And sex for supper!"
Aww, that is a sweet story which I totally get. :)
I can imagine missing her as a friend.
I don't like the movie near as much as the play. Pauline as Shirley "doing" all the characters worked better than having other actors for them - even though they had a fantastic cast. Alison Steadman, Joanna Lumley, Tom Conti...
And Julia McKenzie whom I saw as Sally on the West End.
I loved the play.
AndyHardy - If you're out there, Happy Holidays.
Glebby, have you seen Paradise Road or City of Joy?
Nope Rath.
I guess I've got some video viewing and reading on my list of things to do. :)
I just looked up the book on Amazon - as of 2002, it's on audio, read by the lady herself.
Physically, Bluemoon puts me very much in mind of Ms. Collins.
That is cool.
Wonder if I can download on iPod?
No idea, Mr. Technology.
It's a wonderful and compelling book - she is telling her first child the story of having to give her up at birth.
ouch sounds sad
It's rough.
But it's Pauline, so it's also full of humor.
Cool.
I'll keep that in mind.
I'm surprised you haven't seen Paradise Road - with Glenn Close and Pauline - they are prisoners in a Japanese camp in WWI, and they start a choir. It's beautiful.
Damn I need to see that because you know I love Glenn. :)
Well, for heaven's sake, what have you been waiting for??
LOL!
PS - Must get DVD of Desk Set for the Sunday and Monday off.
Awww, Dina!
