So I saw the Kelis/Robyn concert last night at Webster Hall and I command you:
DROP EVERYTHING AND GOOOOOOOO!
Robyn blew the f**king roof off that place! I thought she was going to be good, but I didn't think she would be this good. This is a performance on a par with David Byrne in the Stop Making Sense tour or Like A Virgin-era Madonna. Yeah...it's that good. Robyn, on an unadorned stage and accompanied only by a four-member band, danced her ASS OFF and sang like an angel. She is truly an exuberant, born performer and you sit there wondering where the hell she gets the energy. The tour also points up how poorly her handlers have marketed the irresistable, sexy tomboy persona she exudes onstage. Screw the whole "cult popstress" crap...bitch is a flat-out star! There's another show tonight and at an outrageously cheap $25 there's really no reason not to go.
Oh, and it might also be the GAYEST event ever! Not only did I overhear a snippet of shrill conversation: "Ke$ha is WAAAY more Madonna than Gaga has ever been!" but during the break Robyn's recorded "Dancing On My Own" was piped into a full men's room who not only all began singing along at the urinals, but actually harmonized.
The Robyn tour. For God's sake...GO!
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”
