I now see that the board is being taken over by ads for Rufus Wainright’s ‘Judy At The Bowl’ concert is for sale.

I tried to find the thread about the actual concert, but it think it was wiped out in the ‘Board Dump of ‘07’.

I’m just wondering how they were able to get an album out of it, considering how badly he was singing.

He has a 2CD of Rufus Does Judy Live At Carnegie Hall and a DVD of Rufus Does Judy Live At The Palladium. I don't see one for the Hollywood Bowl. I would imaging the Carnegie one would be better anyway, since it was the first and he would be fresher.

edited to add: I have an ad blocker so I can't see what you're talking about on this site. But his official website only lists what I mentioned above.

I haven't even clicked on the ad.

I heard he sang just as badly at the other concerts as well.

Rufus Wainright’s "Judy At The Bowl" is by far the worst cd EVER! I've never heard anyone sound so awful and bored. Its like he wanted to hurry up and finish or somehting. He even screwed up and asked the band to start over. No emotion or feeling went into any of the songs. He just sang it,if you can even call it singing. God Awful! This is by far the worst cd I have ever owned (& I own Mrs.Miller's Greatest Hits!)

It is crap. Why anyone would support this is beyond me.

Don't care one way or another for Rufus, but must say - his headshot is god-awful.

I haven't heard this CD, but I was pretty disappointed in his last studio album, Release the Stars. It has a few gorgeous songs, but the rest are forgettable.

Want One is still his best album, and it is absolutely astonishing. I hope he one day returns to that kind of artistry.

I want this CD. I didn't really enjoy 'Release The Stars', save for the title track. I have all of his albums except this one, but maybe I'll just skip it. I did hear that the concert live was pretty good, sad to hear that maybe I heard wrong.

Still, Rufus rocks, and seeing him with Ben Folds rocked too.

I said this when I saw it at Carnegie Hall: It was a thrill for Rufus fans, and a curiosity--at best--for Judy fans.

It was a curiosity for me in as far as.. how can someone not keep this guy from doing this and looking like a total jack ass.

unbiased review follows:
I'm a big Rufus fan. This disc, however, is unlistenable. Yikes!

Is it me or did he sing way too fast. He just went through the words. I felt nothing. I actually get misty eyed when I hear Judy sing some of those songs. I can almost imagine her singing to that crowd and being in the audience feeling like she's singing to me only. Rufus didn't give me that feeling. His voice was weak and he sang songs he didn't have the voice to sing. He couldn't reach some of the notes and it sounded like he just mumbled throught the words. He should spend some time with Barbra Cook so she can show him how its done! I barely listened to the whole cd and I'm never listening to it again.

Amazingly untalented. A fey throwback to the 1970s. If his wrists were any limper they would fall off.

The only good thing about the Judy show was to hear the orchestrations. Musical bliss.

Seriously, since I know nothing about this guy, I just had a listen. What's it meant to be? He can't sing. At all. What's the point of it? Was he in drag, to look like Judy? Why would anyone, other than his parents, buy his albums? Anyone who bought this, please explain. I'm not getting it.

I went through a Rufus phase where I loved practically everything about him and listened to his song 'Poses' on repeat for hours.

And then one day I woke up and didn't like him anymore.

So I guess it is what it is.

I don't know about this album Johnboy, but in his other albums, he is great. He is a talented singer/songwriter, but it sounds like he should just stick to his own material.

Check out his CDS: Poses, Want One, Want Two, Release The Stars, and his self titled album.

I'm frightened to listen to this, I love Poses and Release the Stars was quite great too. I preferred Want One a tad more than Want 2, never heard his first album, and saw his concert in Central Park this summer. From what he played of his Judy repertoire, I did not get any enjoyment or sense of connection from him with the music whatsoever. I would not want to hear him sapping life from any more joyful Judy numbers re: Rufus Wainright CD ads.
