The SAT is the devil incarnate

NYU Directing is hard to get into. You have to have directed at least 3-5 shows for applying.

I thought the ACT was harder than the SAT. "luvtheemcee"'s logic makes sense. I go to a Florida Catholic High School and their focus lies more on Math/English versus Science. It's all about preparation though. How quickly can you speed read and analyze 5-6 graphs and tables within 35 minutes?

The one thing I appreciate the SAT does for you is a) give you formulas and b) keep Trig out of there. My school doesn't teach Trig. at all.

Does anyone know when applications for Fall 2005 come out?

The ACT science section killed me. Usually I'm decent in science, but the time limit really ruined my chances at a presentable score. Bill, do you mean applications for college for Fall '05?

Woa. You have to have had directed actualy productions to get into their directing department? What the hell. What idiot would hire 16 and 17 year olds to direct a full scale production? That can't be right. Are you sure you're not talking about GRADUATE studies at NYU? Which would be a lot more understandable than UNDERGRADUATE.

PJ :: Nope. I totally agree with you, but they want to see that you've directed at least 3 shows. I don't think they come out and say that directly. If I'm not mistaken, the actual application requests you present a book of notes and directions for a production of your choice, right? I talked to a couple of friends of mine who've graduated from NYU recently and they told me that NYU Admissions for Directing are EXTREMELY hard ass and you won't get in unless you've actually directed.

luvtheemcee :: Yes. I meant applications for Fall '05. I guessed on ALL of the science section. I kid you not. I was intimidated by the time. Sweating bullets. So I Christmas Tree'd it.

On their web site and all the mailers I've gotten from them, they've all said to have sketches or directing notes for a production you would someday like to direct. I think if it were a necessity that you would have directed a show to apply for their UG program, it would be stated seeing as how that's a really big deal. I'm not saying you're wrong, you could be right, but all the info I've gotten from Tisch has never said anything about that specific requirement.

...Spinner = Hot

It's possible it's not a necessity, but think about it. There are A LOT of kids applying for that program. A LOT of them go to big Drama schools that support the Arts and those kids have had the oppurtunity to direct shows because of it. I'm sure you're just as creative as they are though. Just show it in your entrance essay and sketches.

However, Sean is coming close to bumping Craig out of that number one slot.

Bill, applications for Fall of 2005 come around late this summer. You can apply online, which is what most schools say they prefer these days or you can have them mailed to you. The deadlines are usually mid-December to early January, unless you apply early decision. Then they're early November.

Do yourself a favor and try to write all required essays over the summer.
Yes, it will blow for now.
But you'll thank me come October.

Some colleges have rolling admission.
They read them when they get them.
The faster you get that application turned in, the better your shot.

Yeah guys, a lot of times the essay topics are the same from year to year - so even if you haven't recieved your application yet, you can start writing. I spent eight weeks on my college essay. I'm not kidding you.... it was awful, putting myself through that.

The SAT is the devil incarnate

I had to write 5 frickin' essays.
My life was hell in October.
Damn colleges.
One of the colleges made me write three very specific essays.
It was very, very unpleasant.
And then, they wouldn't give me any financial aid, so I couldn't even consider that school anyway.
Oh well.
I love my college.
I'm proud to be an SMC Belle!
