The SAT is the devil incarnate

She had an 89 average but she got in based on her minority status (thats what she told me.) I mean I applied with a high 90s average and didn't get in to NYU so its all a matter of politics really.

As for Religion classes, Ive gone to Catholic school since grade school so for me they're incredibly stupid in college because its the same stuff I've always been doing but they're really nothing to be scared of. Most of them are pretty decent plus I'm sure whatever school you go to will offer a world religion class or something so that you dont have to do all your classes strictly on one topic.
And hang on, when did you win the discus?

there are no guarantees when it comes to college these days. i applied to a bunch of schools with a 1450 SAT and near perfects on 3 SAT II tests and was rejected harshly from NYU, Boston U, and Santa Clara but accepted at several schools supposedly harder to get into than those 3. all i can say is to go with your heart and not with prestige. i wound up wasting 2 years at UC San Diego and am infinitely happier and getting a better education at my current (and less competitive) school.

I believe that the schools I apply for will direct more attention to my portfolio (lighting plots, photography, drawings, etc...according to SUNY Purchase)than they will my SAT score.

Is a 3.2 cum. grade point average bad? I have had a rough last 2 years, which effected my school work. Torwards the end of this year, I brought them up. B-Spanish Final, C-Bio Final (did not study), A-Musical Theatre Final, A-Journalism Final. All of my average grades were all Bs and As.

3.2 is okay. If you can get it up to 3.5 by the time you start applying for schools, then that'd be better

I actually know a kid who graduated from my old HS last year who got rejected from Harvard with a 103Avg and a 1590 SATs. We think he spelled his name wrong :-p

I wrote one essay that worked for all my applications- it was about my disability and how it shaped me as a person and formed my goals in life and stuff like that.

I had about 87 average and a 1300 SAT and got into NYU. I was applying for the art department so I had to have a portfolio too.

When my brother applied for college he didnt get into the one he wanted, Cornell, but someone with lower SATs and a lower average got in and it was most likely because of the kid's ethnic background. It does happen.

I have a friend with an ethnic sounding last name, who is like a quarter Cuban.
But he looks like the whitest boy you've ever seen, and he's never been to Cuba.
Not only did he get into great schools with mediocre grades...
He was offered a scholarship based on his ethnicity.
And this is why affirmative action does not work.
I starred in a short film called Magnetic Personality. Check it out!

not to encourage dishonesty on official documents, but it couldn't hurt to accidentally check something besides Caucasian or Asian, especially in California. my friend checked "prefer not to say" on a few apps. she has an ethnic sounding last name, which incidentally is british, and she got accepted to and offered more money for better schools than for the ones where she checked "Caucasian"
