Smash - The ads worked. The debut rating was good news for NBC!

I'm glad to see it did well. I had low expectations and actually figured that I'd just "check in" for a few minutes last night. I ended up watching the whole episode - I found it to be very engaging. I hope they find a solid repeat audience.

Well- I watch primarily for the performances and not necessarily the storylines. I just feel like we have to support these scripted shows. It is MUCH better than the reality crap we are getting. At least the stars of this show HAVE TALENT!

I watch it for everything. I like the trashy sitcom aspect of it, the incongruities of it, and the talent.

It's commercial tv, I'm not expecting a documentary. I watch plenty of those-I like my share of tv fun.

I get what you're saying Jersey Girl but even with not the best script in your opinion- it's still better than Khate Gosselin, the Kardashians, Jersey Shore, The Bachelor... well, you get the picture. We viewers have to get these NO TALENTS off of our tv's. Stepping off my soap box now!

Oh, I don't watch reality TV. (Except for Teen Mom which is just a ridiculous guilty pleasure.) I only watch scripted shows and have more than enough on my plate. Smash is absolutely better than all that Kardashian garbage!

I know and I am hanging my head in shame. It's awful. That little girl Leah got pregnant AGAIN. She has twins, one of which has a disability of some sort. She apparently had a miscarriage. It's like a train wreck. I can't believe MTV airs it. I justify it by pirating it and not adding to the ratings. lol

I still don't get how you can watch that reality show regularly but Smash was so heinously bad you couldn't get through an episode? Is it really that unentertaining? (I made up that word, lol)

I watched the first episode and was planning on giving it a shot. I just couldn't get through the second. I can't lie. I don't like Debra Messing. Angelica Houston seems out of place.. The silliness of casting a show and having financial backers after they had just written the first song took me way out of the story. I don't care much for McPhee. She can sing and act, but not both at the same time. She doesn't seem like Broadway material to me. I do love Megan Hilty, but don't see either women as having the right stuff to play Marilyn. What I have heard of the songs so far didn't catch me. It just felt like watching a show about a Broadway musical I would hate. Again, I love the rest of the cast, but it wasn't something I think is worth getting invested in.

I only watch Teen Mom when I want mindless distraction. I don't really watch it regularly. I do marathon catch ups. I really prefer scripted drama.

Okay JG2- I'll try not to make you feel any more guilty- wait one more time- Teen Mom- Really? If you can make it through that- then Smash should be a piece of cake. I read somewhere that the writing gets better in a few episodes. I'm still gonna support it! Now if we can get some of the other crap off tv. What's gonna happen in a few years when kids look back at television shows that were popular. There aren't even any more theme songs?

After reading everyone's criticism of Smash, it seems that I'm just not that analytical about what really occurs in the business as opposed to what we see on the show. I've experienced the business in real life too, but I'm watching it as a lay person and enjoying it for all its trashiness

I KNOW, SupportiveMom... I can't explain it. I don't drink. I don't smoke. I don't do any drugs. I am getting off the food that has been my addiction for years. I guess I need a vice. lol It must be my transfer addiction.

I guess I am TOO analytical of scripted drama. I looked so forward to Grimm and then couldn't get through like 4 episodes. I like shows that I can get lost in. I love Downton Abbey, Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy, The Borgias, Game of Thrones, Once Upon a Time, Shameless and Parenthood, all of which I think are excellent. On the other hand I also watch Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, True Blood and Glee like they are crack. I think those fall under the category of addiction.

Another thing to consider is that I am out of the country, so almost everything I watch from the US requires a download or internet streaming with a proxy server. I watch too many shows as it is. It takes more effort than just setting the DVR or flipping the channel.

Good lord, the son is terrible.

I can't figure out how he's trying to play it.

The problem is I like Megan Hilty a lot more than Katherine McPhee, so I REALLY want to like Ivy. lol Leave it to me to root for the bitch.

Oh and Diva, the son has been dead for years. Messing is off her bipolar meds. He's a paranoid delusion.
