I thought Pan Am premiered to good ratings and it was the quality (or rather, lack of quality) of the scripts that has people tuning out.

There was a good article in the latest EW about the show, and I'd really advise the hand-wringers to seek it out and read it. It might help to quell some of the increasingly hysterical worrying.

I know a lot of people keep saying "WHO is this supposed to be for?" which, to me, is a much stranger question to ask about this show than Glee, which quickly and easily found an audience. Will the same audience embrace this? Maybe, maybe not, but some people are acting like this show is sooooooo impenetrable to the non-theatre insider and it's not. It's just not.

Also, at this point, anyone who is even slightly computer-savvy (or really, can just read and follow directions) should have some kind of ad-blocker installed. Anytime I've stumbled onto the programming nightmare that is BWW without one my computer always becomes possessed. Ad-blocking makes this site (and indeed, the rest of the web) a much more pleasing browsing experience.

Well, I've seen the pilot. And it didn't really do anything for me. Didn't love it, didn't hate it. Didn't leave me wanting more. And that opinion is based on the show's actual quality. There are some of us who aren't crazy about the show because of its merits, not for any extrinsic reasons.

My thoughts are just like Taz's: Meh. I understand how hard it is to set up a 13 (?) week story arc but saw nothing in the premiere to make me say "Ah yes! This is it!" My biggest concern is that this first episode is available to so many people in so many places and formats that I can't imagine there are a whole lot of people left who WANT to see it that HAVEN'T already.

And just cause I have to be bitchy, my BF and I both laughed out loud when Grace meets the new assistant and remarks on his heterosexuality. That was a joke, right?

Fine. I'll treat this single "Smash" thread as a vaccuum and will not hold in my mind any other of the batsh*t postings on this board about the show.

Speaking of batsh*t and not reading the posts, I believe you moved the goal posts with your "Pan An" comment. It's like you're trying to refute me by implying that you were saying something different than what I replied to. Did Pan Am not premiere to good ratings and decline?

Frankly, I think because I was quoting you at the start of my post, you took it as indictment of "everything" "you've" "said" in this thread, which it wasn't.

To answer your question in all seriousness, I truly don't know, but that's because I simply have no idea how to gauge what the general populous is going to like and dislike. More times than not (and not simply to be a contrarian, despite what anyone thinks, as though I craft all my views on things just to rankle other people) my views on things don't jibe with the majority, so it's hard to say. But like I said above, I don't think the show is impenetrable to the non-theater audience.

I went in to the pilot expecting to hate it, so I was as surprised as anyone as to how much I liked it. Perhaps that should have tipped me off that the show might be doomed.
