Posted: 3/19/05 at 11:52pmHaven't watched SNL in a long time. Personally, it's just not doing it for me anymore. The only segment I like is 'Weekend Update'. It's great...always funny. I love Amy Pohler in it (sp on her last name..).

Amy Poehler is the highlight of SNL for me right now.
I've always been devoted to the show.
It has its ups and downs, but if your home on a Saturday night, what else do you watch? Except the Mad TVs some prefer. I, not.
I didn't know how else to type that.

Posted: 3/20/05 at 12:04amI'm sorry, but Mad TV is plain awful. I think it's very distasteful. SNL has some distasteful skits, but those usually are not the first ones. They are saved for the end of the show when the skits get bad-and not funny.

Posted: 3/20/05 at 12:53amits starting to bug me that now every other show is a repeat, and they're recycling sketches that aren't that funny (or that different from the first time (david spade's sketch with the 2 weird artists was almost identical gag wise [different props, same jokes] as topher grace did a week or 2 before that)

SNL was horrid. It has always had its hits and misses, but tonight was definitely a miss.
And how the hell is MadTV any more distatsteful than SNL? Cause yeah skits like Merv the Perv on SNL and the great Ashton song on weekend update are the epitome of classiness.

That's an apples and oranges comparison.
MadTV is taped, so there is plenty of time to put on prosthetics and do elaborate set changes. SNL is still and will remain the granddaddy of contemporary comedy because it is live, fly by the seat of its pants comedy. It is also SIGNIFICANTLY less mean spirited than MadTV, and tends to speak truth to power, as opposed to having a blast making Chandra Levy jokes and the like that the lower common denomenator MadTV loves to do.
Given how live TV harkens back to the past, (the past: your favorite era, Roxy!) I'm surprised it doesn't appear to the geezer in you.
The Oprah parody on SNL was genius. Who knew Mya could do Oprah too?

Chris Parnell's song about Ashton on Weekend Update was great. Ashton's Federline underwear commercial was brilliant.
There is so much crammed into every LIVE episode of SNL, even when there are misses that show will always have my respect.
And the frequent repeats are the result of the limited budget NBC gives the show.

For 29 of the 30 years the show has been on the air, people have complained that they've given up on it. When Chevy Chase left the show half-way through season two, the "Saturday Night Dead" articles first started appearing.
Like BWW itself, SNL is never "as good as it used to be."
Last night's show was consistently hilarious.
