I am suprised there isn't a thread on it. The Governor Patterson segment was pretty funny!

Bronx Beat! Really! with Seth & Amy!

And that was pretty much it.
Starting off with Christine O'Donnell skit landed flat with horrible big finish. Come on! Can we at least have SOME creativity rather than having her hop on a broom?
I was really only disappointed with the digital short, otherwise pretty decent. I already love Jay Pharoah for his impressions of Will Smith and Chris Tucker.
The Will Smith bit was good and he ha Smith down pat. The show went downhill after the news segment. I was hoping they would pull out a few old skits that Poehler had done in the past.
I have to say that Katie Perry was good. The last time I saw her sing live was on an awards show when her first CD was out and she wasn't good at all. I really like the second song she sang tonight and she sounded good.
The show was pretty much downhill once Katy Perry showed up on Bronx Beat wearing an Elmo shirt, but maybe it's just because I am so sick of hearing about the Sesame Street thing already. I am glad they did Bronx Beat and Amber though, and for some reason I was amused by the tiny hats thing. I can't believe they had Tina Fey there and didn't use her aside from the opening monologue!

^ That's probably because the dream bit was prerecorded earlier in the day/week.
Tina was there when they said goodbye at 1AM though :|
The Showtime bit was labored & unfunny
The opening was good but the best part was News Update especially with Patterson. Will be sad to see him go as Governor.

Amy's dream sequence in the opening monologue was perfection, as was the Ground Zero Mosque ad paid for by the RNC.
Katy Perry's first performance was exactly what I would imagine Up With People would be like if they played the Playboy Manson.
Otherwise, a relatively solid show.
But enough with the overexposed musical guests, already! Next week is Kanye West?? Oh, come ON!
Borstal, I was trying to figure out what that first performance was like. It was slightly stilted and the music sounded, for lack of a better term, kind of muted or restrained.
Namo, the Mosque bit had me on the floor.
Is Kanye on there every season? Not looking forward to him.

Re the Mosque bit
"70% of the DNC" under RNC
It was also one of the few high points
And sadly among one of the lowest points in our nation's history.
Beautifully satirized by SNL.

I loved Amy's dream sequence. The cameos of Justin Timberlake, Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon, and Rachel Dratch were hillarious. it was also great to see Maya Rudolph in the next sketch.
I felt a lot of it fell flat for a season opener. I thought the Boseley Hair Restoration commercial was pretty hysterical. That's about the only time I really laughed in the episode with the exeption of Weekend Update.
I love the song California Gurls. I think it's such a fun song but I thought Katy Perry was a vocal bust as usual in both her performances. I have never heard her sound good singing live. She hides her lackluster vocals with lots of effect on the microphone but if you listen closely you can hear for yourself.
Did anyone else notice that Kherington Payne from So You Think You Can Dance and the remake of Fame was one of her back-up dancers? I don't know if I noticed Kherington because she is just so beautiful you can't help but notice her or Katy was just not that great I had to look for something else to distract me.

I'm usually one of the biggest SNL defenders, but I wasn't overly excited by the premiere. I'm also usually a huge contrarian, so I'm not surprised the everyone loved it much more than I.
I'm still bummed that Jenny "Tina Tina Shanooz" Slate is off the show. I like Nasim Pedrad okay, but I would have thought she was a weaker link that Slate. Oh well.
And not that I have any objection to Maya or Tina or whoever making an appearance, but it reminded me of the Betty White episode.
I agree it was great to see old cast members but it did feel a little too All-Star SNL and only one new cast member (Jay Pharoah) seemed to have something to really show off. Would have loved to see cast members from Parks & Rec or even Will Arnett but that was probably implausible logistics wise.
Katy Perry...oh, autotune, I needed you. But damn it, she's still fun bubblegum pink pop. As long as I don't think about it, she's fun.
It did seem a bit flat for an opening.
Kherington Payne is great. Gorgeous.
TheatreFan4, w here did you hear that the monologue dream sequence was recorded earlier in the week? Judging from the audience reactions, it was surely live.
Give Paul Brittain more to do! He is very funny and very cute!
The dream sequence was done live. During dress Fallon wasn't in it.
