I always say somthing along the lines of, "Do you want a can of pop?"
Soda. Soda. Soda.
Please. This is California. If you say "pop", we will shoot yo' ass down.
I say soda.
But I cannot stand to drink soda.
Soda now. But growing up in Boston it was tonic. My sisters still use that term.

It is regional. I usually say soda but I was raised with pop and...well...sometimes it pops out!!

Soda for me. But when I lived in the midwest is was pop. I live not far from Boston and it is tonic there. Do the die hard New Yorkers from way back when remember Egg Creams? Seltzer, Fox's UBet Chocolate Syrup and milk.
Soad, its 2004 not 1960.

Hon, I was drinking POP in 1960. FIRST!
and you might want to correct your typo, it dilutes the effect of your quip!

POP!
I'm from the north where people educate their children.
I always thought people from New York said "coke"
Waitress: "what would you like to drink?"
Customer: "coke"
Waitress: "what kind?"
Customer: "Sprite."
Soda...I also say backpack, AND bubbler
